Kaki DimockCity Manager Maurice Jones has named Kaki Dimock as Director of Human Services (DHS) for the City of Charlottesville.

Dimock has served as Executive Director of the Thomas Jefferson Area Coalition for the Homeless (TJACH) for almost seven years. During her time at TJACH, she has led a coalition of service providers and local decision makers in an effort to make homelessness rare, brief and nonrecurring in the community.  Homelessness in the area has been decreasing every year for the past five.  Prior to her work with TJACH, Dimock served as Vice President of Community Initiatives for People’s Regional Opportunity Program in Portland, Maine.  In her roles there, she worked extensively with youth services, social services, health programs and housing initiatives. She holds a Master’s Degree in Social Work from Columbia University.
“Kaki has worked tirelessly to address human services issues throughout her career,” said Jones.  “She cares deeply about people, has been a collaborative leader in our community for many years and has been played an integral role in addressing homelessness here.  I’m confident her experience will take our talented staff to new heights of success.”
“I am honored to have this opportunity to join the city in this role and am excited to work to improve the quality of life for all of Charlottesville’s residents,” said Dimock.
The Department of Human Services was created in 2010.  The Department includes all of the residential, foster family, and community based services of the Community Attention Programs and a variety of human services programs and initiatives. The Director serves as a human services policy advisor to the City Manager and works to implement the social policy initiatives of the City Council.
Dimock will begin work with the City of Charlottesville on May 9, 2016.
Jones had previously named Sheila Mitchell to the position. For personal reasons, she has since decided to return to work in Northern California.
