JMU basketball alum Tamera Young in first WNBA Finals

jmu logoAfter forcing and winning a decisive game three for the WNBA Eastern Conference Championship, JMU women’s basketball alumnus Tamera Young (JMU ’08) is headed to the WNBA Finals with the Chicago Sky for the first time in franchise history.

Young came up big in game two as the Sky trailed the Indiana Fever 71-69 with 11.6 seconds left in regulation. She scored on a put-back lay-up with one second left in regulation to tie the game at 71-all to stave off elimination and force overtime. With the Sky up 86-84 in the waning seconds of the second overtime, Young crashed the boards to secure a defensive rebound and secure the win.

The Sky knocked off the top-seeded Atlanta Dream in the Eastern Semifinals before taking down the second-seeded Fever in the Finals.

During the playoffs, Young is averaging 9.7 points on 45.5-percent shooting and 4.5 rebounds per game. She has started in all six games and averaged 33.6 minutes per game.
The WNBA Finals tip-off between Chicago and the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, Sept. 7 at US Airways Center in Phoenix, Arizona.  Fans can watch game one of the best-of-five series on ABC at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time.
