Earth Week got under way tonight in Harrisonburg at Court Square Theater with the premiere of “The 11th Hour,” kicking off eight days of films, speakers and more focused on environmental issues.

Highlights of the week include a talk by Richard Cizik of the National Association of Evangelicals on his Christian-based philosophy of caring for God’s creation, and Bridgewater College alum Robert Wolfe, now of NASA, sharing satellite imagery of the Earth’s atmospheric changes.

“The week of event is bringing together quality speakers for a quality dialogue in a broad cross-section of the community, which is exactly what Court Square Theater is here to offer,” says Kai Degner, executive director of the Arts Council of the Valley.

The schedule for the week includes:

– Screenings of “The 11th Hour” Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

– Screening of “Hoot” on Saturday at 2 p.m.

– Brown Bag Lunches with John Todd on ecological design Tuesday, April 22, and Thursday, April 24, noon-1 p.m.

– NASA’s Robert Wolfe speaking Tuesday, April 22 at 7 p.m.

– Screening of “Energy Crossroads” followed by discussion, Wednesday, April 23, 7 p.m.
