Interstate 81 lane, ramp closures in the Shenandoah Valley: Sept. 27-Oct. 3

i81-headerOvernight lane and ramp closures are scheduled for Interstate 81 in Shenandoah, Augusta and Rockbridge counties from Sept. 27-Oct. 3. These closures allow crews to perform maintenance and construction work in several locations, weather permitting.

Shenandoah County, northbound I-81 for milling and paving:

  • Sunday, September 27: Left lane closed from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning from mile marker 273.5 to 274.5.
  • Monday, September 28: Right lane closed from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning from mile marker 273.5 to 274.5.
  • Tuesday and Wednesday, September 29 – 30: Right lane closed from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. the following morning from mile marker 272.5 to 274.5. On- and off-ramp closures will also be in place at exit 273 (Mount Jackson/Basye). Drivers needing to access this exit will follow detour using Exit 277 (Bowman’s Crossing) and Route 11 (Old Valley Pike).

Augusta County, northbound and southbound I-81:

  • Tuesday through Thursday, September 29 – October 1: Single lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for bridge sweeping at various locations between mile markers 205 and 237.
  • Thursday through Saturday, October 1 – 3: Single lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning for mowing between mile markers 205 and 237.

Rockbridge County, northbound and southbound I-81 for bridge sweeping:

  • Monday and Tuesday, September 28 – 29: Single lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning at various locations between mile markers 191 and 205.
  • Monday through Wednesday, September 28 – 30: Single lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning at various locations between mile markers 174 and 191.

The VDOT Staunton District serves Frederick, Shenandoah, Clarke, Warren, Page, Rockingham, Augusta, Highland, Rockbridge, Alleghany and Bath counties.

For other assistance call the VDOT Customer Service Center, available 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week. Citizens can dial 1-800-FOR- ROAD (1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
