interstate 81Motorists can expect two nights of detours and traffic delays in the area of Interstate 81 exit 205 in Rockbridge County. Paving operations Sunday and Monday nights (October 30-31) through the following mornings will close a portion of Route 606 (Raphine Road) as well as the northbound and southbound I-81 off-ramps.

State police and flaggers will enforce detour routes and provide traffic control at several intersections and truck stop entrances.

  • From 7 p.m. Sunday to 7 a.m. Monday, the southbound I-81 off-ramp at exit 205 will be closed due to paving on Route 606 from the entrance to the Pilot/Flying J truck stop to a point between the northbound and southbound I-81 bridges.
  • From 7 p.m. Monday to 7 a.m. Tuesday, the northbound I-81 off-ramp at exit 205 will be closed due to paving on Route 606 from Smiley’s Fuel City to a point between the northbound and southbound I-81 bridges.

During these paving operations Route 11 and Route 706 will serve as detour routes, allowing drivers to access I-81 at exits 213 and 200. State police will periodically allow traffic to use the newly paved portion of Route 606 when it has cooled enough to accommodate vehicles.

All work is weather permitting.
