The inauguration of Virginia’s 72nd governor, Terry McAuliffe, is Saturday. Find out all you need to know about traveling to Richmond for Saturday’s events events here.

state-capitol2“Gov.-elect Terry McAuliffe is proud to continue the tradition of having the Inaugural Ceremonies and Parade at the Virginia State Capitol open and accessible to the public,” said Executive Director Brynne Craig. “We encourage Virginians from all corners of the Commonwealth to join the Governor-elect in Richmond Saturday for this historic event.”

To show the diversity of talent in Virginia, the Inaugural Parade will feature more than 30 acts that will travel around Capitol Square. For the general public, the best view of the Inaugural Parade outside of Capitol Square will be a public standing area on Franklin Street between 9th and 7th Streets.

For those traveling into Richmond, free parking will be available near Capitol Square. Visit inauguration2014.com/faq  for more information on parking and street closures.

To accommodate the festivities, some roads will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic. But, downtown Richmond remains open for business, and all streets will be open to pedestrians.

As with all special public events of this size, the safety of all guests in Capitol Square is our priority and security checkpoints will be in place. Check out our website for details on prohibited items at inauguration2014.com/faq. Those planning on attending with further questions can also email questions@inauguration2014.com.
