Business trips can be dreadful…

The next one is coming, and you can’t get it out of your head. Your friends think that travelling for business is exciting, but the reality is business trips are often lonely and tiresome. 50% of people travelling for work state that the worst part is they miss their loved ones.

Frequent travel disrupts your routine and even relationships. But travelling can provide new opportunities to explore the world and to better know yourself.

So, what can you do to revel the freedom business trips can bring.

Start by no longer resenting travelling.

Have a morning run during business trips

Start your day with a morning run because it allows you to scope a new place and discover places you want to revisit later. If running isn’t really your thing, you can have a morning walk around the hotel to have a glimpse of the surroundings. Use a phone app to find route suggestions every time you travel to a new place. Pack your running shoes when you have a business trip longer than 2 days.

Catch an event

Check ahead what events are planned for the time you plan to visit a certain place and book tickets to the activities you like. This activity’s point is to spend time outside the hotel room and get in touch with the local culture. Every event (concert, sports game or play) is a bonus you add to your trip.

Indulge your hobbies

Do you love surfing? Are you an avid reader? Do you practice a particular sport? Sometimes you can explore a place by seeing how the locals practice your hobby. Indulging your hobbies when away from home will make you feel comfortable in an unfamiliar place. While Paris may be unfamiliar for you, exploring libraries in the search for a new book may take you back to a familiar feeling. Lovesita recommends business travellers to always be open to meet new people. Making friends in a foreign city is a great way to gain a unique view of the place.

Book a room with a view

If you travel frequently to the same destination you probably know the hotels with the best views. Book a room at a different hotel every time you travel to a destination you visited before because it will offer you different scenery.

When choosing the same hotel repeatedly, you accumulate fidelity points that can facilitate your access to a premium suite.

Get to know every new location’s specific food

The best way to know a new culture is to taste the local food. Before you head to the airport, you should check online for tourists’ recommendations on places you can try authentic food. TripAdvisor is a reliable resource if you want to check reviews other business travellers left. Another option is to ask the local business partners to recommend places where to try local food. They’ll definitely be more than happy to take you to their favourite place.

Connecting with the place is the best way to make the most out of your business trips, so plan some personal time even if you go there to close a deal.
