The Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) has announced that the funding for the temporary Virginia Lifespan Respite Voucher program has been very popular and that they are very close to obligating all of the available grant funds.
This program made it possible for caregivers of children or adults with special needs to apply for up to $400 reimbursement for costs related to respite care, to be used this summer. DARS estimated this federal grant would help approximately 447 Virginia families, and several of those families reside in Highland County.
RD Kathryn Coit contacted several family caregivers in the Bath Highland Region when this grant became available and at least five of those caregivers applied for the grant, either on their own or with Coit’s assistance. Those who were approved for this funding plan to use it to free up some of their time for their own medical needs, relaxation or employment.
