Distinguished by his insightful interpretations and musical versatility, Bulgarian pianist Stefan Petrov performs regularly as a soloist and collaborative pianist in europe and North America. His recitals have been broadcast on TV and radio stations across Eastern Europe, the United States, and Canada. In addition, his strong interest in modern music has compelled him to actively collaborate with contemporary music performers and composers. He has had the opportunity to work with renowned musicians including Eric Heidsieck, Vladimir Feltsman, Ellen Mack and Pamela Frank. Mr. Petrov performs regularly with Israeli cellist Amit Peled. Stefan Petrov is currently the Acting Artistic Coordinator for the Heifetz Institute.
Kathy Kang has performed as a soloist with leading orchestras at Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Grieg Hall in Bergen as well as the Philharmonic halls in Essen, Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich. An alumna of the Heifetz Institute, Ms. Kang is visiting from the Manhatten School for Music. Ms. Kang plays on a Guarneri model of Jean Baptiste Vuillaume (Paris, 1864).
The Heifetz International Music Institute, located at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia, is dedicated to providing a unique and challenging summer program for violin, viola, and cello students from all over the world. Now entering its nineteenth season, the Institute’s curriculum is based on the concept that students can perform beyond the limits of mere technical agility and are capable of transforming the classical music experience for both themselves and their audience.
Many of the Institute’s students have won the world’s top music competitions.
The Institute’s Faculty represents major American music conservatories such as The Juilliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, New England Conservatory of Music, Peabody Conservatory of Music, Cleveland Institute of Music, Manhattan School of Music, and Eastman School of Music, in addition to those of England, Germany, Netherlands, France, Israel and China. Such is the Institute’s reputation that it has been described by Wayne Brown, the former Head of Music and Opera for the National Endowment for the Arts, as “the most important thing happening in the music world today.”
