Covington right-hander Reid Clements (Middle Tennessee State) worked eight innings, yielding one run on three hits and two walks while striking out seven and the Lumberjacks banged out a season-high 15 hits in an 11-3 win over host Harrisonburg Thursday evening in Valley League Baseball.
Covington improved to 4-7; Harrisonburg fell to 6-5.
Clements registered his first VBL decision and kept the Turks hitless from the second through seventh innings. He gave up a run in the first inning on one hit and a hit batter. The Turks were held in check before managing a pair singles in the eighth when the game was well in hand.
First baseman Jonathan Corbett (Lynn University) paced the Jacks at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs. Designated hotter Ryan Alvarez (Miami) started the scoring with his first homer of the season, a two-run shot in the top of the first.
First baseman J.J. Bissell (Oklahoma City University) cracked a two-run homer for Harrisonburg in the bottom of the ninth, his first of the year.
The Turks host New Market (6-5) in a battle for second place in the South, Friday at 7:30 p.m.
