Harrisonburg knocks off Waynesboro in 11 innings, 7-6

generals-turks2Pitcher Logan Onda hit a sacrifice fly to center field to give the Harrisonburg Turks a 7-6 walk-off win over the Waynesboro Generals in 11 innings.

Onda came into the game in the eighth inning as a relief pitcher after James Ziemba loaded the bases without recording an out.  Over four innings of work, Onda struck out eight batters and allowed two runs on two hits and a walk to earn his fourth win of the season.  Onda’s sacrifice fly came after Daniel Nichols lead off the inning with a double and advanced to third base on a passed ball.

The Turks held a 6-2 lead after seven innings, but two of the runners Ziemba left for Onda crossed home plate to cut the lead to 6-4.  In the ninth inning, Waynesboro leveled the score on a 2-RBI triple from Mike Marcinko.

Harrisonburg starter Boone Mokry recorded two RBIs in his first at-bat of the season with a double to center field.  Mokry had to hit after third baseman Matt Rose was ejected for arguing balls and strikes and a disagreement between managers over substitutions forced designated hitter Brandon Gold to play third base.

The win improves Harrisonburg’s record to 19-11.  Waynesboro falls to 18-14 with the loss.
