Harrisonburg announces fourth Citizen Academy

The City of Harrisonburg is taking applications for the annual Harrisonburg Citizen Academy beginning today.
The Citizen Academy will begin its fourth annual session on Sept. 3 and run through Nov. 19. The program is open to all city residents ages 18 and older.

The Academy will meet for 12 weeks for two-hour, Thursday-night sessions to teach participants about the functions and services of city government.

An optional Saturday facilities tour is also available to participants.

“Since its first year, we have seen interest in the Citizen Academy grow. The feedback from our participants has been overwhelmingly positive,” said Miriam Dickler, the city public-information officer and the administrator of the Academy.

“We are excited for this year’s session, and hope that even more of our residents take advantage of this opportunity to get a behind-the-scenes look at what the city does every day on their behalf.”

The class size is limited to 15 participants. Applications are due to the City Manager’s Office by 5 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13.
