Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge and the Waynesboro Exchange Club will be “Celebrating Kids” on Saturday, April 24, at Ridgeview Park in Waynesboro.

The 10 a.m.-noon event will be held at the main pavilion in the first parking lot. The celebration will include activities appropriate for children 6 to 12, including arts and crafts, games and a healthy snack.

The celebration is geared to bring to attention that April is National Child Abuse Awareness and Blue Ribbon Month, with providing safe, supervised activities to let the community know that children are worth celebrating.

“Our club wanted to do something that would benefit and entertain children as well as bring child abuse prevention awareness to the attention of the community,” said Esther Galima Mabry, coordinator from the Waynesboro Exchange Club. “Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge was a perfect partner for this type of event, they do so much to assure that the children of Greater Augusta are able to develop positive relationships with adult mentors.”

The Central Shenandoah Office On Youth will also be helping with the activities that day through their Youth Corps. Children will be given a card to fill out as they complete each activity in order to earn a prize. Activities will range from creating paper pin wheels as a part of the overall Nation Child Abuse Awareness Campaign, to playing various different games.
