Griego backs effort to impeach IRS commissioner

harry griegoSixth District Republican congressional candidate Harry Griego strongly supports efforts by the House Freedom Caucus to advance impeachment proceedings against IRS Commissioner John Koskinen through incumbent Congressman Bob Goodlatte’s Judiciary Committee.

“Over a week ago I wrote an Op-Ed response to the Roanoke Times, pointing out that my opponent, Bob Goodlatte, has repeatedly failed to carry out the powers and responsibilities of his position as House Judiciary chairman – including specifically the impeachment of the heads of executive agencies that have engaged in unconstitutional action,” Griego said. “Less than a week after the Roanoke Times published my Op-Ed, the House Freedom Caucus has called out my opponent for his inaction on an impeachment bill that has been in his committee for months. This isn’t just a campaign issue – this is a test of my opponent’s resolve to uphold the law,” Griego continued.

“If I were in Bob Goodlatte’s position, this would have already been accomplished.  The citizens targeted for their political beliefs by former Commissioner Lois Lerner’s IRS deserve the protection and the accountability of Congress.  The gross obstruction of justice committed by current IRS Commissioner John Koskinen, with his flagrant disregard for due process, public transparency, and accountability, deserves decisive action by the House Judiciary Committee.  My opponent’s refusal to take a stand on this issue is deeply disappointing, and constitutes a betrayal of the trust of his constituents, and a complicity in bureaucratic overreach and the violation of Constitutional liberties. This isn’t a question of politics. It is a question of leadership. On this issue and so many others, Goodlatte has shown none.” Griego said.
