You have finally finished working on the inside of the house and it looks gorgeous. So, now you want to work on giving your garden some personality. The garden is the one place where you can let your creativity take the driver’s seat.

The ideas mentioned below work just as well for anyone starting their garden from scratch. If this resonates with you, your first step will be to identify a suitable location for the garden. This may require you to clear out some space first by dealing with the trees, and gardening companies can easily do that for you.

Whether you are a great DIY enthusiast or this is your first time trying your hand at decorating, you are guaranteed of having a fun time as you watch your garden come alive. The ideas mentioned below are great for adding some colour to your garden.

Toadstool Garden

Your garden will look like something out of a fairy tale with these adorable toadstools. All you need to make them is any item such as a fruit or salad bowl, chipped or slightly damaged terracotta pots, round trays, in fact, anything that your eye tells you looks like a toadstool, especially when turned upside down.

Transform these items with a little bit of spray paint, some polyurethane to protect them from the elements. Screw on a small log for the stem. With the log on a stake, stick it in the ground so that the log rests on the surface.

Library of Bricks

This is a wonderful idea, especially if you use the garden for reading. Before you start conjuring up an image of dull-looking bricks, take a moment to read this. After you collect your bricks, paint each one a different colour. On the spine, paint the book title. When you stand these up on your shelf, you will have a pretty, easy-to-make, brightly coloured library.

Tire Animals

There are many ways to use old tires in the garden, and the next two ideas are just some of them.

If you have children or you normally have children visiting you, they will be thrilled by the tire animals pooping up in your garden. Instead of throwing away old tires, they can be upcycled to produce these adorable animals which range from smiling snails, a parrot in a tree, giraffe, tortoise, zebra or any animal you can think up.

Tyre Wishing Well

Everyone loves it when a bit of magic slips into their lives. With the tire wishing well, this is something that you can enjoy every day. Get three same size tires and after painting them red and white to look like brick, stack them on top of each other and that is yours well. Attach a roof suspended by two basic timber pieces, all nicely painted.

Ladybugs and Caterpillars

If you were one of those children who thought ladybugs were a sign of good luck, then you will love the idea of a host of ladybugs in your garden. Take some small smooth rocks or golf balls and paint them red and black just like their live look-alikes.

For the caterpillars, paint your rocks in fun colors. Arrange them in the shape of a caterpillar winding its way through your garden.

Footprint Rock Décor

This is a beautiful piece of art which reminds us that the garden is an area where the whole family can have fun. There are big daddy footprints, medium-sized mummy footprints, and smaller baby footprints.

You will need some special-shaped stones which, if you cannot find, you can easily buy from the store. This works best if the stones are of different sizes as well as different colours. Simply arrange the main stones in any pattern you desire and then glue them onto your wooden base. For each foot glue, some toes made of small pebbles, and then step back and admire your handiwork.

Lighthouse Décor

This will most likely remind you of all the stories you read while young where ships were always looking for a lighthouse to guide them back to shore.

This beautiful piece of work is made out of clay planters of varying sizes. Paint the planters your favourite colour. After the paint has dried, stack them on top of one another with the largest at the bottom. Paint in the details such as windows and a door, and your lighthouse is ready for display.

Gate of Spades

If you want to make an even bigger statement with your décor, you can make a gate of spades. What you require are some spades, shovels, shears, pitchforks and any garden tool that is no longer in use.

To give them character, paint them and add a coat of varnish to protect them from harsh weather conditions.
