george masonFormer George Mason forward/center Shevon Thompson has received a mini-camp invite from the New Orleans Pelicans.

Thompson will participate in the team’s practices July 5-6 in New Orleans with the hopes of joining the Pelicans’ Summer League roster in Las Vegas. The Pelicans will head to Las Vegas July 7.

An Atlantic 10 All-Conference Third Team selection his junior season, Thompson has had a storied career since arriving at Mason two seasons ago. The Clarendon, Jamaica native led both Mason and the A-10 in rebounding the past two seasons, while consistently being a top rebounder in the nation.

With 351 rebounds his junior season, Thompson owns a career 680 rebounds in 62 games to rank 12th in the all-time George Mason record book. He finished his collegiate career with 29 double-doubles and averaged a double-double of 11.2 points per game and 11.0 rebounds per game. Thompson’s 11.0 rpg average tops the George Mason record book in career rebounding average.

After traveling to Vegas July 7, the Pelicans begin the 2016 Samsung NBA Summer League the following day against the Los Angeles Lakers. Games against the Utah Jazz (July 10) and the Sacramento Kings (July 11) follow before the team begins the single-elimination tournament.
