Gay Men’s Chorus: “Together Again” at JMU
The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts and the Valley AIDS Network at James Madison University will host the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., for a performance titled “Together Again.” The incredible evening of pop, Broadway, jazz, country and classical singing will benefit the Valley AIDS Network.
This concert marks the third visit to JMU by GMCW. The group took part in a fundraiser for the Valley AIDS Network in 2007 and 2009. The Valley AIDS Network is dedicated to compassionately meeting the needs of individuals diagnosed with HIV/AIDS and to promoting education and encouraging prevention in the Central Shenandoah Valley.
This year’s benefit features Potomac Fever, a 12-voice a cappella pop ensemble, will perform followed by Rock Creek Singers, a chamber ensemble of 25.
Founded in 1981, the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, D.C., strives “to entertain through excellent musical performance, to affirm the place of gay people in society and to educate about the gay experience.” Now celebrating its 30th anniversary season, the GMCW has performed at “We Are One: The Obama Inaugural Celebration at the Lincoln Memorial,” the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Carnegie Hall and Boston’s Symphony Hall, among others.
The Forbes Center for the Performing Arts at James Madison University is committed to fostering interdisciplinary programs campuswide that impact the creative process positively by encouraging dialogue about the intersection between society and the arts, and by valuing multicultural and community engagement and arts education in the broader Shenandoah Valley.
