vmi baseballVMI baseball will return to action Wednesday, when the Keydets play host to the Virginia Tech Hokies at Gray-Minor Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.

How to Follow

Fans can see the game live and free of charge – with participating provider – on ESPN3. Wade Branner, the Voice of the Keydets, is on play by play, with AFP editor Chris Graham on color commentary. In addition, live stats and periodic updates via the @VMIbaseco Twitter page will be available.

Leadoff Hitters

Nathan Eaton reached base for the 28th straight game in Sunday’s loss to Furman, setting a new Keydet record for the time that stat has been kept (since 2013). Rob Dickinson held the previous record of 27, set during his conference player of the year season in 2013.

This will be the seventh start Brandon Barbery has made against an in-state opponent this season. He’s gone 2-2 with a 5.29 ERA, but if his two losses are removed, the numbers in his other four starts have been outstanding. In those four starts, against UVA, James Madison, VCU and Richmond, Barbery had pitched to a 2.00 ERA with a 2-0 record. VMI won three of those games, losing just one on a walkoff.

This will be the first game between the teams since March 29, 2016, a 5-3 VMI win at Gray-Minor Stadium. The teams have split the last four games, dating back to 2013.

Next Time Out

Following this contest, the Keydets return to action Friday, taking on Mercer in Macon, Ga. The opener of the weekend series is set for a 6 p.m. first pitch.
