He went 3-for-4 and reached base five times in the Sunday win over UNC. Thaiss had two key hits in the Sunday finale, a two-out, two-run single to tie the game in the second inning and a two-run home run in the sixth inning. His four-RBI day on Sunday matched a career high.

UVA is 4-2 this season against in-state opponents. Since 2004, the Cavaliers have a 115-26-1 record against in-state foes. UVA has six games remaining against Virginia opponents.

Virginia-Radford Series

Virginia leads the series with Radford, 18-4-1. The teams were slated to play each of the last two seasons at Davenport Field, but both games were rained out.

The teams’ last two games have gone down to the wire: RU handed UVA its lone midweek loss of the 2013 season with a 9-8 victory on April 10, while UVa pulled out a 3-2, 11-inning win in 2012 in Charlottesville.

UVA is 7-1 vs. Radford under the current coaching staff (since 2004).

Virginia-VCU Series

Virginia holds a 39-20 lead in its all-time series with VCU. Prior to its 7-5 loss in Richmond on April 5, UVA had won its last 16 meetings with VCU, all during the tenure of the current coaching staff (since 2004). VCU’s last win in Charlottesville came on May 12, 2003, a span of eight games.

Noting Radford

Radford dropped two of three games last weekend in its series at Winthrop. Danny Hrbek paces the offense with a .338 batting average, while the team is batting .238 overall. The pitching staff has compiled a 4.77 ERA.

Noting VCU

VCU swept a three-game series at La Salle last weekend to stretch its winning streak to six games. Jimmy Kerrigan leads the team in batting at .331, while Matt Davis is hitting .323. The Rams are batting .261 as a team and also own a 3.99 team ERA.
