policecar3A former Greene County Deputy Sheriff will spend the next two years in jail after pleading guilty Tuesday (April 8, 2014) to two felony counts of online solicitation of a minor (18.2-374.3).

Robert L. Beverage, 56, of Ruckersville, Va., was sentenced in Greene County Circuit Court to two years of active incarceration with two additional years suspended for a period of 10 years.  Beverage will be on supervised probation upon his release from jail and be required to register as a sex offender.

The Northern Virginia – Washington, D.C., Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force initiated an investigation at the request of the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. The investigation revealed that through the use of two social media accounts from May 19, 2013, through June 26, 2013, Beverage solicited and received at least eight graphic images depicting child pornography from an underage female he had met in the course of his duties as a prisoner transport and court room security deputy that same year.

State police ICAC investigators arrested Beverage Oct. 2, 2013, on two felony counts of use of a communications system to facilitate certain offenses involving children (18.2-374.3).

The case was prosecuted by the Virginia Attorney General’s Office.
