Former Waynesboro City Council member DuBose Egleston is free on secured bond after being charged with attempted rape on Friday.

A 27-year-old woman reported to police at 5 p.m. that she had been sexually assaulted by an acquaintance in her home in Southwest Waynesboro.

Egleston, 55, was arrested late Friday.

The AFP is working to learn more about the incident.

Egleston served on City Council from 1998 to 2002. He was defeated in his re-election bid in 2002 and then ran unsuccessfully for City Council in 2004, 2006 and 2008.
