Fly Lady: My favorite things

Today, a song from the Sound of Music keep playing in my head; My Favorite Things. This is the God Breeze for my musing. Many years ago I read a wonderful book by Pam Young and Peggy Jones; The Happiness File! This book changed my life because it taught me to surround myself with the things I love and that make me smile.

This is why it was so important for me to declutter. I needed to get everything out of my house that brought on feelings of guilt and sadness. I deserved to live in a home that hugged me as I walked through it! Don’t we all???

Not only did I eliminate all the things that had bad memories, I also pulled things out of storage that made me happy!  I put them right out in the open so I could be reminded of the good memories.

My Happiness File started with my home but then I began establishing Happiness Files in every area of my life. I decided to be kind to myself by only using things I loved. I was tired of settling for just any face wipe, shampoo, toothpaste or sheets. What I finally realized that when you use what you love you save money because you quit buying things to just try!

By being nice to myself I saved money and smiled a lot! I finally allowed my Happiness File to extent to my calendar. I only put things on my calendar that I knew would bring me joy! This leads to my motto for living; To be a devoted loving wife to my sweet darling and to find joy in everything I do. What I finally realized is when I am finding joy in everything; I am a devoted loving wife. That is when I dropped the first part of my motto!

Have you ever made a list of the things you love? When we were children one of our favorite gifts was a box full of my grandmother’s favorite things. She passed away a few weeks ago and I have been thinking about putting together some of these boxes for Christmas.

I have surrounded myself with the things I love! It is a blessed way to live and to love myself! This Christmas I am not asking for things; I am asking for donations to help me build a home with Habitat for Humanity. This is a cause that brings joy to me. Please help raise the money to build this home!
