ur-spiders1Florida (6-1) claimed a 76-56 win over Richmond (4-3) in non-conference basketball action in Gainesville on Tuesday night.

Boasting the top defense in the SEC, Florida limited Richmond offensively, forcing the Spiders to their season low in points after Richmond came in averaging 86.0 per game.

Terry Allen led the Richmond effort with 16 points and eight rebounds, while Marshall Wood came off the bench for 12 points and eight boards. Wood once again hit from outside, knocking down three treys as he now has seven in the last two games.

T.J. Cline and ShawnDre’ Jones each finished with 11 points for Richmond.

Florida was led by the efforts of John Egbunu who tallied 17 points and 14 rebounds in the Gator win. Devin Robinson added 12 points and KeVaughn Allen scored 10. Dorian Finney-Smith had nine points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.

Florida jumped out to an early lead, but the Spiders responded to make it 10-8 after a three from Wood. However, the Gator defense made things tough for Richmond from there as the Spiders trailed 40-17 at the half.

Richmond came out with a 9-0 run in the start of the second half, stemmed by some big buckets inside from Cline. Richmond’s defense also held the Gators to just two points over the first five minutes of the second half.

However, Florida was able to respond to Richmond’s run and reopen its lead, claiming a final margin of 76-56.

Richmond returns home on Saturday to face Northern Iowa at 6 p.m. in the Robins Center.
