Finding purpose: How to get started

Contributors

In a previous article, we talked about how you can get your life back in order following a serious illness. Recovering from a serious illness on its own is difficult enough; restoring the quality of your life is even harder. There are things you must do in order to manage your health limitations. You also need to take steps in order to regain control over your personal finances.

Before you can do all that, however, you need to find a purpose. Having a purpose – goals to achieve and reasons to move forward – is how you stay motivated through hard times. A clear purpose also helps with overcoming the challenges that lie ahead. After all, you can always find comfort in knowing why you are trying to get your life back in order.

There are actually a lot of things you can do to find your purpose. The best way to regain control over your life is by exploring goals that you want to achieve in the short and long run, and then making real efforts to achieve those goals. If you are eager to get started, here are some steps worth taking.

Go Back to School

There is something about going back to school and pursuing a higher degree that drives you forward. If you happen to have a degree you have always wanted to earn – or a field you are particularly interested in – there is no better time to start with your pursuit than today.

Thanks to the internet, you can go back to school without having to put yourself and your body under a lot of stress. Top universities like Baylor University are making their online courses available to many. Programs such as the online nursing programs from Baylor University allow you to earn a higher degree from the comfort of your home.

A lot of students who are managing their health conditions actively choose to continue their studies online for the added flexibility. You can study in your own time and be flexible with how you complete the course. There are still standards to meet, but online courses are generally more manageable.

Return to a Career

The economy may show signs of uncertainties, but that doesn’t mean the job market is bad; not at all. There are plenty of opportunities to seize right now and the unemployment rate is on a steady decline. Regardless of your background, there is always a job that you can secure in order to get your life back in order.

With a steady stream of income, you can then focus on longer-term goals. You can, for example, save for a new business venture or future investments. You can also set career-related objectives, and then work smart to reach those objectives in a timely manner.

Coupled with pursuing a higher degree from a reputable school, you have an endless array of possibilities ahead of you. Simply going back to school for a master’s degree is often enough to get you considered for a higher managerial role. Companies also see the initiative behind your pursuit for a higher degree as a huge plus when considering candidates.

Start an Online Business

Once again, the internet is your friend when it comes to getting your life back in order. Today, you no longer have to make big investments on a retail store – or a brick-and-mortar establishment – to start your own business. It is much more efficient to set up an online storefront and reach customers that way.

An online business has the potential of growing into a big venture. It also comes with a huge advantage: you can work from your home office. Depending on the nature of your online business, you may not have to spend a lot of time working at all.

You can explore the possibilities of opening an e-commerce site and selling drop-shipped products. Drop-shipping means you don’t have to worry about fulfilling customers’ orders, because your suppliers will do everything for you. You can then focus your resources on marketing your e-commerce site and attracting potential customers.

Explore Old (and New) Hobbies

Speaking of an online business, some of the most successful e-commerce sites we have today started life as their owners’ hobbies. You too can pick up where you left off with an old hobby and find new opportunities to explore. You’ll be surprised by how easy it is to get =started when the things you do are the things you truly love.

Finding purpose is something you can do one step at a time. By giving these ideas a try, you are already taking the first step towards putting your life back together.
