There has been a tough competition to clinch the top most post in any sphere of life. For the engineering too, great and grand competitions exist by which the nation gets the creamy brain and students who compete, also achieves the brightest career in their life. And the competition, which holds the mechanism of screen best among the students in engineering studies, is known as JEE Mains (Joint Entrance Examination).
Previously, these exams were undertaken by the banner of AIEEE (All Indian Engineering Entrance Examination) and IIT-JEE (Indian Institute of Technology –Joint Entrance Examination). These two examinations have been clubbed together and JEE Mains has been formed for the selection of various engineering courses. This particular examination has been divided into two parts- the one is JEE mains and the other one is JEE advance.
After qualifying the JEE mains, the competitor can get enrollment in the IIIT- (Indian Institute Of Information Technology), NITS – (National Institute of Technology), CFTI’s – (Central Funded Technical Institute) and in IIEST – (Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology), which is in Shibpur respectively. The students have to appear in two sets of paper, which are Paper 1 and Paper 2.
Paper 1 – consists of engineering subjects.
Paper 2 – consists of architecture/Planning courses.
Examination Papers
Paper 1 – On first paper, student have to give computer based online examination and as well as written examination, which has an objective type of questions. If you give the correct answer, then you will get 4 marks in each correct answer, but in case, if you give incorrect answer than one mark is deducted for each incorrect answer. So, there is also negative marking on it. The first paper is divided in three parts, physics, chemistry and mathematics.
Paper 2 – In paper 2, the subjects are divided into again three parts, mathematics, drawing and aptitude. The marking of this paper is also like the first paper.
Criteria for the Eligibility to Appear in the JEE Mains
In class 12th, the students must have scored 75% marks. However, for SC (Schedule Cast) and ST (Schedule Tribes) students have relaxation in the percentage of scoring mark by 70%. The CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Examination), in class 12th, the candidates should have 5 subjects in their course. Those students who have four subjects will not be considered to be eligible.
Criteria of Eligibility Regarding Age For the Examination
For the consideration of age criteria, for the JEE mains 2016,
Firstly, birthday on or after October1st, 1991 are eligible. These candidates are general candidates. Secondly, for the SC, ST and OBC candidates and also for the person with physical disabilities, the relaxation of 5 years is given, which means the birth date is October 1st, 1985 and after is eligible.
The date of birth of every candidate will be taken into consideration, which is certified by the Secondary Education Board or University examination is considered. The candidates who have passed the 12th standard, which is qualifying examination on the year 2013 or before 2013 and who are going to appear in the in 2017 are also not eligible for the JEE 2016 exam. Candidates who have failed eligible qualification in class 12th in 2013 but passes in 2014 are also not eligible for appearing in the examination. And lastly, candidates can have only 3 attempts in this examination.
Other Salient features of the Examination are as under
The question paper will be in two languages, Hindi and in English. There are also defense service seats for the children of defense services who are permanently disabled..
It is mandatory for the candidate to appear in both the papers. And if in case, if the candidates attempt only in one examination, then he will be considered as absent.
The percentage of the reserved candidates should have following criteria
General candidates 50.5%
OBC or NCL 29%
SC 15%
ST 7.5%
Out of these categories 3% of horizontal reservations are for the PWD candidates who are in service.
