emu basketballMidway through the first half, the EMU Runnin Royals went on a 12-2 run on No. 6 Randolph-Macon, slicing an early deficit down to six points. But the visiting Yellow Jackets ended the half on a 14-4 streak, regaining momentum before running away with a 77-49 decision Wednesday night in Harrisonburg.

Outside of that streak, where they hit 5-of-8 shots, EMU struggled to get in a flow on offense. The Royals earned just six assists and had more turnovers than assists for the first time since the Christmas break, covering four games.

The men worked hard to get inside, especially in the second half where they attempted 19 free throws, but they finished only 13-of-23 from the stripe.

Randolph-Macon proved their 14-1 record and national ranking by putting 18 assists against seven turnovers, shooting 48% from the floor. The Royals came in at 35%.

Tim Jones (Forestville, Md./Central) scored a team high 15 points while DJ Hill (Woodbridge, Va./Hylton) added 10. Josh Whelan (Fort Defiance, Va./Fort Defiance) chipped in seven points and seven rebounds. Senior Jamel Howard (Leesburg, Va./Tuscarora) had six rebounds and five points off the bench.

All-American Buzz Anthony led Randolph-Macon with 20 points and five assists. Josh Talbert scored 17 while Miles Mallory had 10 points and blocked five shots.

The Runnin Royals (3-12/1-5 ODAC) hit the road this Saturday, playing a 2:00pm game at Ferrum College.
