virginia baseballLuke Bolka had a second-inning homer and four RBIs, and Virginia freshman lefty Daniel Lynch struggled in his first home start in a 6-1 Cavs’ loss to East Carolina on Saturday.

UVA (3-3) has now dropped two straight in the weekend series to the Pirates (6-0).

Lynch (1-1) was charged with six runs on seven hits in five and a third innings, striking out three and walking two.

Bolka got the offense going for ECU with a three-run shot to left in the second, his first of the season.

Williams Sutton was 3-for-3 with a pair of triples and three runs scored for East Carolina.

Jacob Wolfe (2-0) went six innings for the Pirates to get the win, giving up an unearned run on four hits, striking out two and walking two.

Adam Haseley and Ernie Clements each had two hits for Virginia.

Game Notes

  • Jack Roberts looked … good … in relief. The sophomore righty hit 90-92 mph on the gun and held ECU hitless in two and two-thirds innings, striking out four. He also walked four, though. Roberts has now struck out 10 and walked five in five and two-thirds innings of relief work in 2016. Walks were an issue for Roberts in 2015 as well: in 23.2 innings, he struck out 22 and walked 20.
  • Ernie Clement continues to be productive at the top of the order. His two-hit game Saturday has him at 13-for-24 (.542) for the season. Daniel Pinero is struggling. His 0-for-3 day at the plate has him with a 3-for-23 (.130) through the Cavs’ first six games.
