Route 708 – Dry Bridge Road – in Albemarle County was reopened this morning following a yearlong project to replace the bridge that spans Buckingham Branch Railroad.
Virginia Department of Transportation contractor Corman Construction, Inc. of Annapolis, Maryland began the $2.5 million project in late September 2013. Their work entailed removing the aged one-lane, timber-deck bridge, which had been posted with an eight-ton weight limit, and replacing it with a two-lane, prestressed concrete bridge designed to carry all legal loads.
The Route 708 bridge replacement was completed on time and under budget. More about the project can be found on VDOT’s website at www.virginiadot.org/projects/
