Every home, whether it is an apartment or a house, needs to have a regular schedule for drain care. Drain care for all drains is very important for a number of reasons. If you find yourself forgetting about this important maintainence takes, it helps to schedule drain care services from a professional.

Clogged Drains Can Cause Damage

One of the worst ways that a clogged drain can impact you is by causing flooding, which can prove costly, especially if you are renting the space. When the flow of water is blocked, you can easily flood your home if you turn your attention away for a short period of time with water running. This is most common with smaller sinks because they take less time to fill up and then overflow. Every change of season, check to see that the drain is not blocked and running smoothly. It helps to use a commercial drain cleaner, or even a natural solution, periodically and having a sink trap is also a great way to help prevent clogs by filtering foods and other items that would otherwise go down the sink drain and cause clogs.

Drains Cause Odors and Attract Pests

People who don’t regularly have their drains serviced will likely experience some type of drain odor. Water that goes down the drain, combined with leftover organic material, will build up and sit near the opening of the drain. Over time, this buildup will also begin to attract pests such as drain flies and even roaches. The best way to get rid of pests is by preventing them from having a reason to appear. There are a few different products on the market which can be useful if you apply them yourself occasionally in between plumber visits, but this isn’t a substitution for regular professional service calls that can completely clear and clean the drain. One thing to be mindful of is removing hair from drains or installing a drain trap to prevent hair clogs.

Broken Pipes

If you don’t receive the proper drain cleaning services, you can create serious problems further down your pipe system, which can lead to a broken pipe. A broken pipe is a serious problem that has to be attended to immediately to avoid backups, flooding, and structural damage. When a plumber comes to do a routine inspection, they can also use a camera to inspect your pipes and find any potential issues before they become problematic.

In order to keep your drain performing as it should and help prevent serious problems from neglect, and potential responsibility for damage to property, schedule routine maintenance and keep an eye out for any clogs or slow draining water. Call a plumber immediately if there seems to be a serious issue and get the service necessary to protect your home and keep your system working as it should.
