Donor profiles telling in Cline-Arthur 24th House District race?

ellen arthurben-clineThe Ellen Arthur 24th House District campaign is pointing to recent campaign finance filings to suggest an interesting picture of how the race for the Virginia General Assembly seat is playing out.

According to the Virginia Public Access Project, Republican incumbent Ben Cline has raised $108,710 for his campaign in the 2015 election cycle, far outpacing Democratic Party challenger Ellen Arthur, who has raised $20,046.

The Arthur campaign points out that the two candidates have roughly the same number of small donors giving $100 or less, and that the difference in the overall totals comes from big-money donors, particulary PAC donors.

Arthur has not received a contribution from any PACs in the 2015 cycle. The Cline campaign lists 52 PAC donations on its report.

“I am proud to have grassroots support and I am hopeful that I can be a voice of change for those folks who have given what they can to see progress in the 24th District. When elected I will never sell out to big business or corporations and will always stay true to my constituents,” Arthur said.
