Democrats RepublicansFollowing the deadline for primary candidate filing in Senate districts across Virginia, Democrats are celebrating record breaking candidate recruitment.

As of March 28, Democrats are competing in 35 of 40 Senate districts which represents the most contested districts in two decades.

“The Senate Democratic Caucus is proud of the diverse slate of candidates we have running in districts across the Commonwealth. Our candidates represent our shared Virginia values and we are ready to fight to protect access to healthcare, invest in education, expand affordable housing, and preserve our environment,” said Senate Democratic Caucus Chair Mamie Locke. “There are seven Republican-held Senate districts trending Democratic. With only two additional seats needed to retake the majority in the Senate this year, grassroots enthusiasm is on our side.”
