Bath County Sen. Creigh Deeds announced this morning that he will run for the Democratic Party nomination to run for governor in 2009.
Deeds made the announcement in an online video posted at his new campaign website, www.DeedsforVirginia.com.
“I’ve spent my career as a consensus builder — a listener — someone who fights for your values and delivers results,” Deeds said in his announcement video.
“Now, with your help, I’m running for governor with a mission: to keep our state the best place to live, work, and raise a family…the best place for all of us to call home,” Deeds said.

The Deeds candidacy had been expected. Deeds lost by a razor-thin margin to Republican Bob McDonnell in their 2005 campaign for attorney general.
McDonnell is also expected to make a run for governor in 2009. Lt. Gov. Bill Bolling is also said to be considering a run at the Republican nomination to run for governor.
One other Democrat is reportedly considering running for the ’09 party nomination on that side of the aisle – House Democratic Caucus chair Brian Moran.
Deeds has served in the Virginia General Assembly since 1991 – first in the House of Delegates and for the last six years in the Virginia Senate.
