The Best of Both Worlds Dance and Step Competition returns to the historic Paramount Theater on Saturday, November 12 at 3 p.m.

This is the 10th annual competition which produces a fusion of dance and step teams competing for their share of $2,500, a trophy the size of a child, and the bragging rights for being the best in this highly competitive event.  Some of the top college,  professional, high school and community teams throughout the region have provided the audience with some of the most entertaining shows to visit the area.

Last year, Drew Hall Step Team of Howard University and Mozaic Dance Team of James Madison University, both left with the first place award in the step and dance genres, respectively. All of the teams were fed by the energy of the audience and the audience became more energized by every creative move provided by the performers. Teams included teams from UVA, JMU, HU, Liberty, and others from throughout the region. Who’s coming this year?

If you would like to see a sample of why people travel hundreds of miles to see this show, then pick up the hit movies, “You Got Served” and “Stomp the Yard.” The 10th Annual Best of Both Worlds Dance and Step Competition is age appropriate and enjoyed by seniors, children and everyone in between. It’s one of the most diverse events to take place in Charlottesville. Bringing people together is part of the event’s mission and it has always been successfully achieved.

Doors of the Paramount Theater will open at 2 p.m. and showtime at 3 p.m. You are encouraged to get your tickets early. Tickets were extremely scarce last year so do not be left out in the cold asking about the show. Door prizes will be given out and a secondary audience choice award will depend on your voting, so be there.

A portion of the proceeds will support the non-profit film documentary America’s Darkest Future: The Wage of an Inaccessible Early Childhood Education. Tickets are $15.25 in advance and $18.25 on the day of. Pick up your tickets at the Paramount Theater Box Office 215 E. Main St. (Downtown Mall), Plan9 Music, Mel’s Barber Shop, Sidetracks Music, and Martina Payne’s Beauty Salon, online at DanceandStepCompetition.com or TheParamount.net or charge by phone 434.979.1333.
