Culpeper VDOT District Traffic Alerts: Nov. 2-6

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is installing storm drain structures, paving and constructing a retaining wall at the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        Sunday through Tuesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound Route 29 outside lane will be closed at Angus Road and the right lane on Angus road will be closed for sidewalk removal.

–        Wednesday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound Route 29 outside lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Route 250 Bypass. The ramp to Route 250 Bypass west will be closed with a detour in place for motorists.

–        Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., intermittent left-turn lane and crossover closures will be in place on Route 29 from Earhart Drive to Hydraulic Road.

–        Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., the ramp from Barracks Road to eastbound Route 250 Bypass will be narrowed with a right shoulder closure. The eastbound Route 250 Bypass outside lane will be closed from Barracks Road to just east of the merge area.

 

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work is scheduled Sunday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to Albemarle Square.

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive.

–        A single left-turn lane from eastbound Rio Road to northbound Route 29 will be closed.

–        Rio Road will be closed to through traffic at its intersection with Route 29. Right turns will be permitted at the intersection but the crossover will be closed to through traffic and left-turn movements. A single lane will be maintained for local business traffic. Motorists should follow posted detour signs.

–        Shoulders closed on Route 29 at the intersections of Twentyninth Place Court, Fashion Square Drive, Ashwood Boulevard, and North Hollymead Drive. Work will be completed one intersection at a time.

 

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Sunday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Alternating lanes closed in both directions from Towncenter Drive to Rio Mills Road. Traffic stops of up to 10 minutes will be necessary for safe clearing of trees in median. Expect minor delays.

 

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Deck resurfacing of I-64 bridge over Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Alternating eastbound and westbound lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Interstate 64 – Tree trimming and brush removal on I-64 westbound at mile 104. Right lane closed on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays.

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Dec. 9.

Route 29 (Monacan Trail Road) – Paving from just north of Route 692 (Plank Road) to Route 760 (Red Hill School Road).Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

Route 250 (Richmond Road) – Line painting from 0.3 mile east of the Interstate 64 interchange at Shadwell to the Fluvanna County line. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., mobile lane closures will reduce traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

Route 649 (Proffit Road) – A short segment of Proffit Road will be closed to through traffic while crews repair the bridge over Norfolk Southern Railway. During the closure, motorists will follow posted detour signs from Route 20 (Stony Point Road) to Route 600 (Watts Passage Road) to Route 29 (Seminole Trail) and reverse. The road is expected to reopen Nov. 20.

(UPDATE) Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road) to Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure. Anticipated completion Nov. 30.

(NEW) Route 782 (Stribling Avenue Extended)On Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the road will be closed between Route 29 Business (Fontaine Avenue) and the Rail Road underpass for utility work. Motorists should seek an alternate route.

Route 784 (Doctors Crossing) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

(NEW) Route 854 (Carrsbrook Drive) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Westbound lane closed Thursday and Friday approximately 0.3 mile east of Route 29 (Seminole Trail). Flagging will occur.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 20, 713 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 600, 640, 641, 700, 747 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 608, 640, 641, 645, 740 – Mowing.
  • Routes 663, 708, 810 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. On Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., eastbound traffic will be reduced to one lane approximately 0.4 mile west of Route 663 (Stevensburg Road) while crews install drainage structures under the roadway. Westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane at the same time and location on Wednesday. Expect delays.Motorists should obey the posted 45 mph work zone speed limit signs and be alert for workers near the travel lanes and trucks entering and exiting the highway.

Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) – Line painting and installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce southbound traffic to one lane from Route 663 (Alanthus Road) to Route 676 (Beverly Ford Road/Berry Hill Road).

Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 through the work zone. Motorists should be alert and use caution approaching the intersection. Anticipated completion August 2017.

Route 29 (James Monroe Highway/James Madison Highway) – Mowing along the corridor. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Line painting and installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce eastbound traffic to one lane from Route 621 (Colvin Road) to the Fauquier County line.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 229, 522, 643 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 522, 626, 628, 666, 746 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 606, 608, 617, 628, 629, 635, 646, 652, 661, 709, 723 – Mowing.
  • Route 680 – Pipe replacement.

 

 

Fauquier County

Interstate 66 – Bridge repairs on I-66 from mile marker 20 to mile marker 35 in both directions. Sunday through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 4:30 a.m., alternating eastbound and westbound lane closures will occur. Expect brief delays.

Route 15/29 (Lee Highway) – Line painting and installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce northbound traffic to one lane from Route 605 (Airlie Road) to the Prince William County line.

Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway) – Mowing along the corridor. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 17 (Winchester Road) – Line painting and installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce northbound traffic to one lane from Route 777 (Old Zion Road) to the Interstate 66 interchange.

(NEW) Route 245 (Old Tavern Road) – Paving and line striping from Route 17 (Winchester Road) to approximately 0.4 mile north of Route 750 (Harrison Road). Traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Obey traffic controls and expect delays.

Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary and secondary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent shoulder and lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Anticipated completion July 2016.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 17 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 17, 55 west, 600, 625, 674, 681, 693, 694, 802, 838, 1145 – Mowing.
  • Routes 600, 623, 710, 712, 713, 1124 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 622, 704, 726, 728, 735 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 694, 714, 806 – Pipe replacement.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

(NEW) Route 1007 (Stoneleigh Road) – Paving of gravel road. Wednesday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., single lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to Route 601 (Courthouse Road). Obey traffic controls.

Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary and secondary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 29, 33 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Route 33 – Mowing.

 

Louisa County

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Tree trimming and brush removal on I-64. Mobile left lane closures will occur in both directions from mile marker 124 to mile marker 147.5, daily. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 33 (Louisa Road) – Line painting from Route 22 (Louisa Road) to Route 1002 (South Street). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., a mobile work zone will reduce traffic to one lane. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 699 (Indian Creek Road) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., mobile lane closures with flagging will occur.

Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary and secondary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

Madison County

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Paving, line striping and installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., mobile lane closures will reduce southbound traffic to one lane at the locations listed below.

  • From Route 662 (Shelby Road) to 1 mile south of Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road).
  • From 0.7 mile north of Route 678 (Tibbs Shop Road) to 0.3 mile south of Route 612 (James City Road).
  • From Route 607 (Ridgeview Road) to Route 634 (Washington Street/Oak Park Road).

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Mowing along the corridor. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road) – Line striping and installing raised pavement markers. Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane at the locations listed below.

  • From Route 662 (Shelby Road) to 1 mile south of Route 657 (Thrift Road).
  • From Route 692 (Riverview Lane) to the Greene County line.

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 604, 605, 606, 631, 634 – Mowing.
  • Route 622 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Orange County

Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on primary and secondary routes between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

(UPDATE) Route 20 (Constitution Highway) – Line striping and placing stone along shoulders from Route 741 (Lafayette Drive) to approximately 0.1 mile south of Route 729 (Tannery Road). The work will require mobile lane closures Monday through Saturday between 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. and between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

Route 611 (Gold Dale Road) – Paving and line striping from Route 20 (Constitution Highway) to Route 604 (Gold Dale Road). Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

Route 631 (Brick Church Road) – Asphalt patching. On Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating lanes closed between Route 629 (Lahore Road) and Route 20 (Constitution Road), with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls.

Route 651 (Thornhill Road) – Asphalt patching. On Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating lanes closed between Route 612 (Monrovia Road) and Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway), with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls.

Route 700 (Trimmers Road) – Asphalt patching. On Tuesday and Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., alternating lanes closed between Route 632 (Montebello Drive) and Route 673 (Old Rapidan Road), with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 20, 522 – Mowing.
  • Routes 20, 1120 – Pipe replacement.
  • Routes 600, 612, 614, 616, 631, 661, 671, 678 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 611, 631, 651, 700, 1159 – Asphalt patching.

 

 

Rappahannock County

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Paving and line striping from Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) to approximately 0.6 mile west of Route 678 (Jordans Road). Eastbound traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Saturday, from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Obey traffic controls and expect delays.

Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.

  • Routes 604, 615, 618, 626, 681, 707 – Mowing.
  • Route 650 – Pipe replacement.
