road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing excavation work near the ramp and grading in the median. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Sunday, Aug. 15 through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the westbound Route 250 Bypass outside lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Barracks Road.
  • Monday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the southbound Route 29 right lane will be closed at the ramp to Route 250 Bypass west.
  • Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the westbound Route 250 Bypass outside lane will be closed from Hydraulic Road to Barracks Road.
  • Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., intermittent left-turn lane and crossover closures will occur on Route 29 from Morton Drive to Hydraulic Road.

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Temporary crossovers and signals will be installed and utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., alternating lanes closed on northbound and southbound Route 29 between Woodbrook Drive and Twentyninth Place Court.

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Survey work and installation of concrete barriers.

  • Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the Route 29 northbound left lane will be closed from Polo Grounds Road to North Hollymead Drive.
  • Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., alternating Route 29 southbound lanes will be closed from Towncenter Drive to Polo Grounds Road.

(NEW) Adaptive traffic signal control system – Rebuilding signal at Berkmar Drive and Woodbrook Drive.

  • On Monday and Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the right-turn lane will be closed on southbound Berkmar Drive.
  • Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., the right-turn lane will be closed on westbound Woodbrook Drive.

Route 631 (Rio Road) – Sunday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., line striping and finishing work will be done on East Rio Road from Route 29 to approximately 0.1 mile south of Hillsdale Drive. Motorists should be alert for lane closures and changes in the traffic pattern. Traffic through the work zone will be controlled and brief delays are likely.

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Deck resurfacing of I-64 bridge over Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Alternating eastbound lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Pavement patching. On Wednesday, the westbound left lane will be closed at mile marker 104. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls when approaching the work zone.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Trimming and roadside maintenance. Eastbound and westbound shoulders closed between mile markers 124 and 147.5, and between mile markers 99 and 124.

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Nov. 5.

Interstate 64 – Painting bridges over Route 250 (Richmond Road) in Shadwell (exit 124). Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., shoulder closures will occur at the bridge. Bridge height clearance reduced to 14 feet 6 inches. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

Primary routes – Line painting. Mobile lane closures will occur on Route 29 (Seminole Trail) overnight at Towncenter Drive and working north. Line painting on Route 250 (Ivy Road) from Crozet to the Route 29/250 Bypass and on Route 250 (Richmond Road) from the city of Charlottesville limits to Route 22 will also occur during overnight hours. Work on all other primary routes will occur between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily. Motorists should use caution around slow-moving equipment and only pass where safe and legal.

Primary routes – Bridge washing in the following locations. Alternating lane closures will occur in each direction Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

  • Route 20 (Scottsville Road/Valley Street) – Bridges over the James River and Hardware River.
  • Route 22 (Louisa Road) – Bridge over Turkey Sag Creek.
  • Route 29/250 Bypass – Two bridges over Route 29 Business (Fontaine Avenue).
  • Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Bridge over Buck Island Creek.
  • Route 250 (Ivy Road) – Bridges over Route 29/250 Bypass, Buckingham Branch Railroad and Rivanna River.

(UPDATE) Route 20 (Stony Point Road) – Installation of pavement markers from Route 250 (Richmond Road) to Route 621 (Wolf Trap Road). Monday through Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Constructing right-turn lane at Route 729 (Milton Road). Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., westbound lane closed with traffic controlled by flagging. Expect delays. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

(UPDATE) Route 605 (Durrett Road/Durrett Ridge Road) – Pavement patching between Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) in Albemarle County and Route 604 (Celt Road) in Greene County. Alternating lanes closed during daylight hours Monday through Wednesday. Obey traffic controls.

Route 616 (Black Cat Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with traffic detoured via Route 250 (Richmond Road). Anticipated completion Oct. 15.

(NEW) Route 631 (5th Street) – Paving from Route 1870 (Ambrose Commons Drive) to approximately 0.2 mile north of the Interstate 64 overpass. Wednesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by arrow board and uniformed police officers. Obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road), which will be narrowed to one lane near the intersection,then left onto Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) and out to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

(UPDATE) Route 672 (Blufton Road) – Pavement patching from Route 810 (Browns Gap Turnpike) to the end of state maintenance. Alternating lanes closed during daylight hours on Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Various routes in the Forest Lakes subdivision – Paving at the locations listed below. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 1736 (Barron Court) – From Route 1734 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1740 (Copper Knoll Road) – From Route 1737 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1741 (Highland Ridge Road) – From Route 1737 to Route 1723.
  • Route 1742 (Autumn Woods Drive/Ridgefield Road) – From Route 1741 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1743 (Acorn Hill Court) – From Route 1720 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1749 (Heather Glen Road) – From Route 1723 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1752 (Timber Pointe Road) – From Route 1720 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 1753 (Timber Meadows) – From Route 1720 to the end of state maintenance.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 6, 602, 606, 627, 665 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 606 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 618, 620, 627, 630, 631, 701, 706, 708, 717, 719, 728, 753, 810 – Mowing.
  • Routes 635, 637, 676 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Route 672 – Pavement patching.

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Grading and clearing operations from Route 788 (Lignum Road) to just west of Route 739 (Clay Hills Road). Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone between Route 788 and just west of Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road). Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and trucks entering and exiting the highway.

Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Painting Route 3 (Germanna Highway) bridge over Route 29. Monday through Friday, shoulders will be closed on Route 3 and Route 29 at the bridge. Bridge height clearance reduced to 14 feet 6 inches. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Motorists should be alert and use caution through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Placing stone along the shoulders from the Orange County line to just south of Route 689 (Cedar Run Road). Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane, controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect delays.

Route 655 (Somerville Road) – Roadway resurfacing from Route 689 (Cedar Run Road) to Route 652 (Mitchell Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 748 (Bruces Lane) – Installation of drain pipe. Intermittent lane closures will occur Tuesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 775 (Ferguson Lane) – Installation of drain pipes from Route 621 (Jeffersonton Road) to the end of state maintenance. Intermittent lane closures will occur Tuesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 15, 215, 229, 600, 601, 602, 603, 605, 647, 652, 654, 656, 660, 661, 662, 663, 669, 675, 676, 689, 696, 722, 723, 736, 793 – Mowing.
  • Routes 621, 680, 788 – Pipe replacements.
  • Route 621, 624, 625, 639, 687, 1225 – Pavement patching.

 

Fauquier County

Interstate 66 – Repairs to bridge over Broad Run, just east of Route 245 (Old Tavern Road). Inside lanes closed at mile marker 32 in both directions Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Motorists should keep right and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Interstate 66 – Replacing overhead utility lines at mile marker 9.5 in Warren County. On Sunday, Aug. 23 between 5 a.m. and 10 a.m., westbound motorists should be alert for slow roll closures beginning at mile marker 17 in Fauquier County.

(UPDATE) Route 17 (Winchester Road) – Roadway resurfacing from Route 777 (Old Zion Road) to just south of the bridge over Interstate 66. Monday through Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., northbound traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 17 (James Madison Highway) – Pipe replacement. Southbound lanes closed from Route 777 (Old Zion Road) to Route 690 (Cannonball Gate Road) from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 5 a.m. Wednesday. Southbound traffic shifted to use one northbound lane. Motorists should expect minor delays and use caution approaching the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (Lee Highway) – Roadway resurfacing from Route 605 (Airlie Road/Dumfries Road) to the Prince William County line. Monday through Friday from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m., southbound traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent shoulder closures will occur for installation of construction signs from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Anticipated completion July 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 742 (Wheatley School Road) – Preparatory work for paving of gravel road. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) to the end of state maintenance, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

Route 752 (Sillamon Road) – Replacement of bridge over Deep Run. Road closed at the bridge, approximately one mile east of Route 617 (Blackwells Mill Road) near Goldvein. Motorists should use posted detour via Route 617. Anticipated completion Oct. 1.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 17, 55, 245, 616, 617, 634, 637, 652, 709, 710, 712 – Mowing.
  • Route 610, F-185 – Pipe replacement.
  • Routes 616, 810 – Debris removal.
  • Routes 628, 629, 651, 667, 702, 703, 705, 790, 847 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 710 – Patching
  • Route 710 – Machining of gravel road.

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion Nov. 20.

(UPDATE) Various routes – Paving at the locations listed below. Traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 630 (Mountain Laurel Road) – From Route 629 to Route 630.
  • Route 630 (Plain Dealing Road) – From Route 659 to Route 601.
  • Route 631 (Hunters Lodge Road) – From Route 613 to Route 15.
  • Route 696 (Deerfield Road) – From Route 607 to Route 626.

(UPDATE) Route 1007 (Stoneleigh Road) – Paving of gravel road. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to Route 601 (Courthouse Road) on Monday between 7:30 a.m. and 2:45 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 15, 649, 673 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 617, 631, 633, 670, 676, 692 – Mowing.

 

Greene County

(NEW) Route 629 (Welsh Run Road) – Replacement of bridge over Welsh Run. Road closed at the bridge. Through traffic will use the following detour: Route 629 to Route 743 (Advance Mills Road) to Route 617 (Dunnes Shop Road) to Route 633 (Amicus Road) and back to Route 629. Anticipated completion Sept. 11.

(NEW) Route 650 (Mount Olivet Road) – Pavement patching between Route 615 (Evergreen Church Road) and Route 810 (Dyke Road). On Thursday and Friday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., single lanes closed with flagging. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 605, 650 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 614, 632, 642 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 621, 632, 634, 642, 667 – Mowing.

 

Louisa County

(NEW) Route 33 (Jefferson Highway) – Drainage pipe replacement. On Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Route 33 will be closed to through traffic between Route 605 (Willis Proffitt Road) and Route 522 (Pendleton Road). Eastbound motorists will be detoured left on Route 605, and then right onto Route 522, which carries traffic back to Route 33. Westbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to driveway entrances will be maintained for local traffic.

(NEW) Route 677 (Goodwins Store Road) – Preparatory work for paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., single lane closures with flagging will occur along Route 677. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Various routes – Paving at the locations listed below. Traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 191 (Crew Road) – From Route 208 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 607 (Rock Quarry Road/Bybee Road) – From Route 250 to the Fluvanna County line.
  • Route 617 (Greensprings Road) – From Route 615 to one mile east of the intersection.
  • Route 631 (Windyknight Road) – From Route 33 to the Hanover County line/
  • Route 696 (Mallory Road) – From Route 626 to Route 250.
  • Route 791 (Grooms Lane) – From Route 250 to the end of state maintenance.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 703 – Pipe installation/repair.
  • Routes 613, 623, 688, 733, F187, F191, F192 – Mowing.

 

Madison County

(UPDATE) Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

Route 663 (Walkers Mill Lane) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., single lane closed with traffic controlled by flagging from about 0.5 mile west of Route 662 (Shelby Road) to about 0.8 mile east of Route 664 (Carter Ridge Lane). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • Routes 618, 631, 632, 634, 682, 702, 722 – Mowing.
  • Routes 623, 635, 691, 696, 706, 726, 731 – Machining of gravel roads.

 

Orange County

(UPDATE) Route 688 (Willis Bridge Road) – Drainage pipe replacement. Road closed Monday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. between Route 637 (Tomahawk Creek Road) and Route 638 (Mountain Track Road). Local traffic will have access to all driveways; through traffic should follow the posted detour.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 600, 612, 661, 663 – Mowing.
  • Route 604 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.
  • Route 671 – Pipe replacement.
  • Route 734 – Pavement patching.

 

Rappahannock County

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing in Rappahannock, Culpeper and Fauquier counties from Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) to the town of Warrenton. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 622 (Aaron Mountain Road) – Paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., single lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 626 (Long Mountain Road) to one mile east of the intersection. Motorists should use an alternate route.

(NEW) Route 622 (Harris Hollow Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., intermittent lane closures approximately 1.4 miles west of Route 624 (Sunnyside Orchard Road), with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 629 (Bean Hollow Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., intermittent lane closures will occur with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.

  • Routes 522, 637, 707 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.
  • Routes 611, 642, 729 – Mowing.
  • Route 612 – Pavement patching.
