Culpeper VDOT District Traffic Alerts: Aug. 10-14

The following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing excavation work near the ramp and grading in the median.

  • Sunday through Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., southbound Route 29 outside lane and ramp to westbound Route 250 Bypass closed for excavation work. A detour is in place for motorists.
  • Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., intermittent left-turn lane and crossover closures will occur on Route 29 between Morton Street and Hydraulic Road for grading operations.
  • Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the ramp from southbound Route 29 to the eastbound Route 250 Bypass will be narrowed for excavation work.

(NEW) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work will continue in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection.

  • Monday and Tuesday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 northbound right lane closure and periodic closures of Albemarle Square main exit.
  • Monday through Friday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 southbound right lane closed from south of Woodbrook Drive to West Rio Road.
  • Wednesday through Friday, 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 southbound and northbound, alternating lane closures in the vicinity of Myers Drive and Berkmar Drive.

Route 631 (Rio Road) – Sunday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., line striping and finishing work will be done on East Rio Road from Route 29 to approximately 0.1 mile south of Hillsdale Drive. Motorists should be alert for lane closures and changes in the traffic pattern. Traffic through the work zone will be controlled and brief delays are likely.

(NEW) Route 29 widening – No work planned.

 

Albemarle County

Interstate 64 – Deck resurfacing of I-64 bridge over Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Alternating eastbound lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Nov. 5.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Mowing in the median shoulders. Westbound shoulders closed from mile marker 116 to 114 and eastbound shoulders closed from mile marker 114 to 124 during daytime hours on Saturday, Aug. 8 and Sunday, Aug. 9. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Painting bridges over Route 250 (Richmond Road) in Shadwell (exit 124). Monday through Wednesday between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m., alternating lanes closed in each direction and one left-turn lane closed from exit ramp to Route 250 west. Right shoulder closed Monday, Aug. 10 through Monday, Aug. 17. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Various routes – Bridge washing in the following locations. Alternating lane closures will occur in each direction Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

  • Route 20 (Scottsville Road/Valley Street) – Bridges over the James River and Hardware River.
  • Route 22 (Louisa Road) – Bridge over Turkey Sag Creek.
  • Route 29/250 Bypass – Bridge over Route 654 (Barracks Road) and two bridges over Route 29 Business (Fontaine Avenue).
  • Route 53 (Thomas Jefferson Parkway) – Bridge over Buck Island Creek.
  • Route 250 (Ivy Road) – Bridges over Route 29/250 Bypass, Buckingham Branch Railroad and Rivanna River.

(NEW) Route 20 (Stony Point Road) – Application of latex sealant from Route 250 (Richmond Road) to Route 621 (Wolf Trap Road). Traffic reduced to one lane from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Traffic will be controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(UPDATE) Route 20 (Stony Point Road) – Slope repair on the shoulder between Route 610 (Lonesome Mountain Road) and Route 649 (Proffit Road). Northbound lane closed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 250 (Seminole Trail) – Shoulder repair at the Route 649 (Proffit Road) intersection on Tuesday. No traffic impacts are anticipated. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Route 250 (Richmond Road) – Painting I-64 bridge over Route 250. Alternating lanes closed in each direction, Monday, Aug. 10 through Monday, Aug. 17 between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 250 (Ivy Road) – Assessment of bridge over Little Ivy Creek. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging Tuesday and Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 250 (Ivy Road) – Drainage pipe replacement. Single lane closed from Route 637 (Dick Woods Road) to Route 1641 (West Leigh Road) on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 604 (Buffalo River Road) – Assessment of bridge over North Fork Rivanna River. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging on Thursday between 1 and 5 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 608 (Happy Creek Road) – Roadway resurfacing from Route 645 (Magnolia Road) to Route 646 (Lovers Lane). Traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Motorists will be directed by flagging and pilot truck. Expect minor delays.

Route 616 (Black Cat Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with traffic detoured via Route 250 (Richmond Road). Anticipated completion Oct. 15.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road), which will be narrowed to one lane near the intersection,then left onto Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) and out to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

(NEW) Route 731 (Keswick Road) – Replacement of bridge over Carroll Creek. Road closed at the bridge Monday through Friday. Traffic will be detoured west on Route 22 (Louisa Road), and then left onto Route 744 (Hunt Club Road), which carries traffic back to Route 731.

(UPDATE) Route 1150 (Mill Creek Drive) – Milling and paving from Route 742 (Avon Street Extended) to Route 20 (Scottsville Road). Single lane closures with flagging will occur from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 1734 (Malbon Drive) – Milling and paving from Route 1723 to the end of state maintenance. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 1735 (Becker Lane) – Milling and paving from Route 1723 to the end of state maintenance. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 1736 (Barron Court) – Milling and paving from Route 1723 to the end of state maintenance. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 1740 (Copper Knoll Road) – Milling and paving from Route 1737 to the end of state maintenance. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 6, 20, 601, 614, 654, 665, 671 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 6, 602, 627, 631, 708, 784, 1803 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 605, 636, 668, 691 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 608, 635, 636, 640, 691 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 622, 626, 631, 706, 708, 712, 726, 729, 732, 795 – Mowing.
  • Route 784 – Pipe installation/repair.

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Preparatory work for roadway widening. Grading and clearing operations from Route 788 (Lignum Road) to just west of Route 739 (Clay Hills Road). Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone between Route 788 and just west of Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road). Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and trucks entering and exiting the highway.

(NEW) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Painting Route 3 (Germanna Highway) bridge over Route 29. Alternating northbound lane closures will occur Wednesday at 9 a.m. through Thursday at 6 a.m.  Alternating southbound lane closures will occur Wednesday at 6 p.m. through Thursday at 3 p.m. Right shoulders closed in each direction at the bridge, Thursdaythrough Monday, Aug. 17. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should be alert and use caution through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 655 (Somerville Road) – Grading and roadway resurfacing from Route 689 (Cedar Run Road) to Route 652 (Mitchell Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 601, 617, 624, 696 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 608, 637, 669, 684, 762 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 610, 622, 647, 655, 661, 663, 689, 695, 733, 735, 741, 1120, 1121 – Mowing.
  • Routes 621, 624 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 621, 627, 682, 1004 – Pipe installation/repair.

 

Fauquier County

(NEW) Interstate 66 – Repairs to bridge over Broad Run, just east of Route 245 (Old Tavern Road). Inside lanes closed at mile marker 32 in both directions Monday through Thursday from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Motorists should keep right and expect brief delays.

Route 15/29 (Lee Highway) – Milling and paving northbound lanes from approximately 0.1 mile north of Route 17 (Marsh Road) to just north of Route 880 (Lord Fairfax Road). Traffic will be reduced to one lane from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Sunday and from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 17 (Winchester Road) – Application of latex sealant from Route 777 (Old Zion Road) to just south of the bridge over Interstate 66. Northbound traffic reduced to one lane from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. Traffic will be controlled by flagging and pilot truck. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 17 (Marsh Road) – Mowing from the Stafford County line to Route 15/29 (James Madison Highway). Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 17 (Marsh Road) – Colonial Pipeline Company is repairing a gas line in the median. Inside lanes will be closed in each direction between Route 644 (Ritchie Road) and Route 688 (Savannah Branch Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 29 (James Madison Highway/Lee Highway) – Mowing from the Culpeper County line to the Prince William County line. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Line striping from the Culpeper County line to the town of Warrenton. On Tuesday, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., northbound traffic will be reduced to one lane.

Route 801 (Green Meadows Road) – Roadway surface treatment along route. Single lane closures may occur Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Motorists should use caution approaching the work zone and obey all traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 17, 602, 688 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 28, 721, 726, 1414 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 55 east, 245, 600, 601, 626, 628, 674, 692, 801, 1414 – Mowing.
  • Routes 55, 738, 752, 847 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 609, 615, 634, 715, 716 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 610, 637, 651, 847 – Pipe installation/repair.

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion Nov. 20.

Route 6 (West River Road) – Replacement of the Hardware River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Anticipated completion Aug. 14.

(NEW) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Washing bridges over Rivanna River and Cunningham Creek. Alternating lane closures will occur in each direction Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Various routes – Paving and line striping at the locations listed below. Traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 608 (Barnaby Road) – From Route 632 to Route 613.
  • Route 613 (Bybees Church Road) – From Route 15 to Route 630.
  • Route 617 (Little Creek Road) – From Route 631 to Route 15.
  • Route 631 (Hunters Lodge Road) – From Route 613 to Route 15.
  • Route 632 (Ridge Road) – From Route 676 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 670 (Prospect Lane) – From Route 676 to the end of state maintenance.
  • Route 676 (Oliver Creek Road) – From Route 22 to Route 675.
  • Route 692 (Kathy’s Lane) – From Route 676 to the end of state maintenance.

Route 1007 (Stoneleigh Road) – Preparatory work for paving of gravel road. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to Route 601 (Courthouse Road) Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

 

Greene County

(NEW) Route 642 (Simms Road) – Preparatory work for paving of gravel road. Single lane closures with flagging will occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Motorists are advised to be alert for traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 33, 607, 610, 614, 616, 645, 670 – Mowing.
  • Routes 605, 677 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 614, 629 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

Louisa County

(NEW) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Washing bridges along Route 15 corridor. Alternating lane closures will occur in each direction Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Slope repair just north of Sommerfield Drive. Northbound lane closed from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

(NEW) Route 208 (Courthouse Road) – Washing bridges along Route 208 corridor. Alternating lane closures will occur in each direction Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Route 250 (Richmond Road) – Washing bridges over Mechunk Creek. Alternating lane closures will occur in each direction Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Washing bridges along Route 522 corridor. Alternating lane closures will occur in each direction Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Various routes – Paving and line striping at the locations listed below. Traffic reduced to one lane controlled by flagging and pilot truck from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect minor delays.

  • Route 615 (Mahanes Road) – From Route 22 to Route 675.
  • Route 676 (Diamond Road) – From the Fluvanna County line to Route 627.
  • Route 678 (Hanback Road) – From the Fluvanna County line to Route 627.
  • Route 691 (Old Louisa Road) – From Route 33 to the Orange County line.
  • Route 694 (Loving Road) – From Route 600 to Route 615.

Route 658 (Old Apple Grove Road) – Preparatory work for paving of gravel road. Single lane closures with flagging will occur from Route 657 (Apple Grove Road) to the bridge over Turners Creek Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 617, 636, 638, 640, 695 – Mowing.
  • Route 694 – Pavement patching.

 

Madison County

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

Route 652 (Gaar Mountain Road) – Drainage pipe rehabilitation. Monday through Friday, single lane closures with flagging will occur from about 1.9 miles north of Route 656 (Ruth Road) to about 0.3 mile south of Route 651 (Aylor Road). Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 680 688 725 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 725, 688, 680 – Pavement patching.

 

Orange County

(NEW) Route 631 (Brick Church Road) – Pavement patching from Route 629 (Lahore Road) to Route 20 (Constitution Highway). Alternating lanes closed with flagging from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 643 (Cox Mill Road) – Pavement patching from Route 639 (Madison Run Road) to Route 690 (Black Level Road). Alternating lanes closed with flagging from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 700 (Trimmers Road) – Pavement patching from Route 632 (Montebello Road) to Route 673 (Old Rapidan Road). Alternating lanes closed with flagging from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 611, 617, 647, 652, 658, 663, 672, 680, 692, 701, 735, 750, 788 – Mowing.
  • Routes 612, 624, 1101 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 631, 643, 700 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 734 – Machining.

 

Rappahannock County

(NEW) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Mowing from Route 729 (Richmond Road) to the Culpeper County line. Mobile lane closures will occur Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and use caution through the work zone.

(NEW) Route 231 (FT Valley Road) – Drainage pipe replacement. Between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, the road will closed from 0.1 mile south of Route 652 (Poortown Road) to Route 608 (Ashby Road). Southbound motorists should follow Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) south to Route 604 (Round Hill Road), and then right onto Route 707 (Slate Mills Road), which carries traffic back to Route 231. Northbound motorists will reverse the detour.

(NEW) Route 602 (Nethers Road) – Stream bank restoration along the Hughes River. The road will be closed between Route 231 (FT Valley Road) and Route 601 (Nethers Road) beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Route 231 and Route 601 (Peola Mills Road) is the detour route. The road is expected to reopen the afternoon of Friday, Aug. 14.

(UPDATE) Route 622 (Aaron Mountain Road) – Preparatory work for paving of gravel road. Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., traffic will be flagged from Route 626 (Long Mountain Road) to just east of the intersection. Motorists should use an alternate route.

Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 211 – Mowing.
  • Route 612 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 231 – Pipe installation/repair.
