Culpeper VDOT District Traffic Alert: July 6-10

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing excavation work near the ramp and grading in the median. Overnight work on Monday and Tuesday includes removing the existing overhead sign structure.

  • Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., intermittent left-turn lane and crossover closures will occur for median work.
  • On Monday, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 250 motorists should expect traffic stops of up to 20 minutes just west of Emmet Street while overhead sign structure is removed. Two inside lanes closed on Route 250 eastbound and westbound. Ramps from Route 29 south to Route 250 east and west will be closed, with traffic controlled by uniformed police officers.
  • On Tuesday, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 southbound motorists should expect traffic stops of up to 20 minutes while overhead sign structure is removed. Two outside lanes and ramp to Route 250 west will be closed completely, with traffic controlled by uniformed police officers.
  • On Monday and Wednesday through Friday, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Route 29 southbound outside lane will be closed at Route 250.

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Contractor is digging test holes to locate underground utilities on Route 29 between Polo Grounds Road and Ashwood Boulevard.

  • On Monday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday the northbound right lane and right-turn lane will be closed just north of Hollymead Drive.
  • On Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the southbound right lane will be closed just south of Towncenter Drive.
  • On Friday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Saturday the southbound right lane will be closed just south of North Hollymead Drive.

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work will occur in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection.

  • On Monday and Tuesday nights, from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the two westbound left turn lanes on East Rio Road will be closed for utility location work. Motorists should slow down and be alert for signs advising of the lane closures and alternate routes as they approach the work zone.
  • Motorists should be alert for work along the northbound shoulder and right turn lane closures between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. in the vicinity of the Route 29 entrance to Albemarle Square Shopping Center.

(NEW) Route 29 adaptive signal control technology – Phase one work complete.

 

 

Albemarle County

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Deck resurfacing of I-64 bridge over Route 637 (Dick Woods Road). Alternating eastbound lane closures will occur Tuesday through Thursday between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Installation of communications conduit in median. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Left lane closures may occur in both directions between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Sept. 28.

(NEW) Route 20 (Scottsville Road/Stony Point Road) – Preparations for roadway resurfacing at the following locations. Traffic reduced to one lane Tuesday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • From just north of Route 6 (Irish Road) to Route 708 (Red Hill Road).
  • From .22 mi north of Route 250 (Richmond Road) to just south of Route 621 (Wolf Trap Road).

Route 616 (Black Cat Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with traffic detoured via Route 250 (Richmond Road). Anticipated completion Oct. 15.

(NEW) Route 627 (Carters Mountain Road) – Surface treatment from Route 20 (Scottsville Road) to Route 795 (James Monroe Parkway). Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

Route 637 (Dick Woods Road) – Replacement of bridge over Ivy Creek. Bridge is open to traffic. Intermittent lane closures may occur as final work items are completed. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Replacement of bridge over Buckingham-Branch Railroad. Road closed at the bridge with southbound traffic detoured right onto Route 677 (Old Ballard Road), which will be narrowed to one lane near the intersection, then left onto Route 676/678 (Owensville Road) and out to Route 250 (Ivy Road). Northbound motorists will reverse the detour. Access to all residences and businesses will be maintained during the closure. Anticipated completion Nov. 16.

(NEW) Route 690 (Newtown Road) – Surface treatment from Route 796 (Brooksville Road) to FR-173 (Summer Rest Lane). Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 691 (Jarmans Gap Road) – Surface treatment from Route 611 (Jarmans Gap Road) to Route 684 (Lanetown Road). Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 791 (Wyant Lane) – Surface treatment from Route 688 (Midway Road) to the end of state maintenance. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 20, 600, 640, 641, 700, 847 – Mowing.
  • Routes 22, 231, 712 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 614, 617, 641, 664, 665, 670, 674, 697, 698, 701, 711, 712, 717, 720, 724, 725, 728, 735, 737, 747, 760, 784 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 640, 691, roads in Mill Creek subdivision – Pavement patching.
  • Route 743 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Town of Culpeper

(UPDATE) Routes 15/29 Business, 229 – Finishing work at roundabout project. Intermittent lane closures on Route 15/29 Business and Route 229 will occur Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and proceed with caution through the work zone.

 

 

Culpeper County

(UPDATE) Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Preparatory work for roadway widening. Alternating lane closures will occur from Route 669 (Carrico Mills Road) to Route 750 (Ellis Road) on Tuesday and Wednesday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. for drainage pipe installation. Traffic will be controlled by flagging.Motorists should obey traffic controls and proceed with caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Tuesday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Motorists should be alert and use caution through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

(UPDATE) Route 655 (Somerville Road) – Grading and placement of stone between Route 689 (Cedar Run Road) and Route 652 (Mitchell Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Tuesday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and proceed with caution through the work zone.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 611, 630, 628, 664, 693, 710, 713, 714, 716, 730, 1174 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 625, 663, 669, 682, 685 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 617, 647, 716 – Pipe installation/repair.
  • Route 669 – Debris removal.

 

 

Fauquier County

(UPDATE) Interstate 66 – Repairs to Route 723 (Ashville Road) bridge over I-66. Alternating westbound lane closures will occur Monday and Tuesday from5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Motorists should be alert for workers and equipment near the travel lanes.

(NEW) Interstate 66 – Guardrail and mile marker sign repairs. Westbound shoulder closures will occur from mile markers 38 to 13. Motorists should use caution near the work zone.

(NEW) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Milling operations from the Culpeper County line to the town of Warrenton. Traffic reduced to one lane Monday through Friday. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 723 (Ashville Road) – Repairs to bridge over Interstate 66. Road closed at the bridge. Through traffic should follow posted detour signs and use caution in the work zone. Anticipated completion Aug. 1.

  • Routes 55, 601, 637, 647, 709 – Debris removal.
  • Routes 602, 605, 610, 614, 616, 644, 646, 648, 702, 704, 705, 707, 708, 709, 714, 715, 716, 748, 806 – Mowing.
  • Routes 628, 672, 682, 681, 688, 694, 761 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 639, 643, 647, 674, 681, 688, 732, 735 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 688, 694, 787 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 691 – Pipe installation/repair.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion Nov. 20.

Route 6 (West River Road) – Replacement of the Hardware River bridge. Temporary lane closures may occur, with traffic controlled by flaggers. Anticipated completion Aug. 14.

(UPDATE) Route 619 (Ruritan Lake Road) – Surface treatment from Route 660 () to the Albemarle County line. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Route 620 (Rolling Road) – Surface treatment from Route 6 (West River Road) to the Albemarle County line. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Route 635 (Cannery Lane) – Surface treatment from Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to the end of state maintenance. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

(UPDATE) Route 682 (Little Mountain Road) – Surface treatment from Route 15 (James Madison Highway) to the end of state maintenance. Traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Obey traffic controls.

Louisa County

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Milling and paving. Eastbound traffic reduced to one lane with flagging from mile markers 136 to 143 overnight Monday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Motorists should use caution through the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Preparations for roadway resurfacing at the following locations. Traffic reduced to one lane Tuesday through Friday from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • From just north of the Sommerfield Business Park entrance to Route 22 (Louisa Road).
  • From 0.5 mile north of Route 603 (Bowlers Mill Road) to the Orange County line.

(UPDATE) Route 22 (Davis Highway) – Preparations for roadway resurfacing from the Louisa town limits to Route 522 (Mineral Avenue) in the town of Mineral. Traffic reduced to one lane Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • Route 669 – Mowing.
  • Route 618 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.

Madison County

(UPDATE) Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Preparations for roadway resurfacing at the following locations. Traffic reduced to one lane Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

  • From 0.7 mile north of Route 678 (Tibbs Shop Road) to Route 612 (James City Road).
  • From Route 662 (Shelby Road) to 0.9 mile south of Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road).
  • From Route 634 (Oak Park Road) to Route 607 (Lillards Ford Road).

(NEW) Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road) – Preparations for roadway resurfacing from Route 662 (Shelby Road) to Route 657 (Thrift Road). Traffic reduced to one lane Tuesday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists should obey traffic controls and expect brief delays.

Route 231 (N. Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Replacement of bridge over Mulatto Run. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Anticipated completion Dec. 18.

Town of Gordonsville

(NEW) Faulconer Street and King Street – Drainage pipe replacement at the intersection. Alternating lane closures will occur Tuesday between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging.

 

 

Orange County

Route 631 (Brick Church Road) – Entrance pipe replacement approximately one half-mile south of Route 20 (Constitution Highway). Alternating lane closures will occur Monday between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should obey traffic controls.

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 3 – Mowing.
  • Route 631 – Pipe installation/repair.
  • Route 660 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 660 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Rappahannock County

(UPDATE) Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur Tuesday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., with traffic controlled by flagging. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion May 2016.
