Culpeper District Traffic Alerts: Week of Feb. 23-28

The following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

Albemarle County

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Roadside maintenance in both directions between mile marker 99 and mile marker 123. Be alert for mobile operations with workers on the roadway shoulders Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 20 (Stony Point Road) – Mowing operations from the city of Charlottesville to Orange County. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Traffic signal installation at Route 643 (Polo Grounds Road). Alternating lane closures in both directions Monday through Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Be alert for traffic controls approaching the intersection.

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Sidewalk work between Zan Road and Branchlands Boulevard. Obey traffic controls Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Bridge maintenance over Rivanna River, north of Lewis and Clark Drive. Expect alternating lane closures between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. weekdays.

Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Road and utility work under VDOT permit for new development. Expect nightly lane closures Sunday through Friday from north of Route 649 (Proffit Road) to Northside Drive. Median crossovers closed. Follow traffic controls.

(NEW) Route 604 (Buffalo River Road) – Inspection of the bridge over Rivanna River. Expect alternating lane closures Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 631 (Rio Road East) – Inspection of the bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad. Expect alternating lane closures Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 643 (Polo Grounds Road) – Road work under VDOT permit between Route 29 (Seminole Trail) and Route 1033 (Bentivar Drive). Expect traffic shifts and intermittent flagging operations during daytime hours.

(NEW) Route 729 (Buck Island Road) – Mowing operations from U.S. 250 (Richmond Road) to Route 732 Route 22 (Milton Road). Expect mobile, alternating lane closures Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 742 (Avon St. Extended) – Inspection of the bridge over Moore’s Creek. Expect alternating lane closures Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 743 (Hydraulic Road) – Pavement marking for new traffic pattern at the Route 29 (Seminole Trail) intersection. Alternating lane closures both east and west of the intersection between 10 p.m. Sunday and 3 a.m. Monday. Southbound traffic on Route 29 may also be affected. Be alert for traffic controls approaching the intersection.

Route 743 (Hydraulic Road) – Sidewalk work between Swanson Drive and Route 1411 (Inglewood Drive). Obey traffic controls Sunday through Thursday from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Culpeper County

Business Route 15 (Remington Road) – Rehabilitating bridge over Rappahannock River at the Fauquier County line. Road closed to through traffic with posted detour. Anticipated completion Oct. 2020.

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Utility work under VDOT permit near Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway). Expect shoulder closures Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(NEW) Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Inspection of the bridge over the Rapidan River. Expect alternating lane closures Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Fauquier County 

Business Route 15 (Remington Road) – Rehabilitating bridge over Rappahannock River at the Culpeper County line. Road closed to through traffic with posted detour. Anticipated completion October 2020.

Route 15/17/29 (Eastern Bypass) – Construction of grade-separated interchange near Route 880 (Lord Fairfax Road):

  • Expect intermittent nighttime lane closures
  • Expect intermittent daytime lane closures on Business Route 15/17/29
  • Contractor will maintain 11-foot travel lanes with barrier in place in both directions.

Route 29 (Eastern Bypass) – Inspection of Route 29 Business bridge over Route 29 Bypass. Expect alternating lane closures Thursday between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

(NEW) Route 635 (Hume Road) – Multiple pipe replacements between Route 730 (Stillhouse Road) and Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road). Road closed to through traffic between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday.

Route 880 (Lord Fairfax Road) – Shoulder closures and intermittent flagging operations near Route 15/17/29 (Eastern Bypass) for Warrenton Southern Interchange project. Be alert for workers near the travel lanes Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Greene County 

(UPDATE) Route 230 (Madison Road) – Ditch cleaning operations between Route 619 (Dundee Road) and Route 621 (South River Road). Expect mobile, alternating lane closures Monday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Louisa County 

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Roadside maintenance in both directions between mile marker 124 and mile marker 147.5. Be alert for mobile operations with workers on the roadway shoulders Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Madison County 

(NEW) Route 29 (Seminole Trail) – Pothole patching from the Greene County line to the Culpeper County line. Expect mobile, alternating lane closures in both directions Monday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

(NEW) Route 230 (Wolftown-Hood Road) – Pothole patching from Route 29 (Seminole Trail) to Route 15 (James Madison Highway). Expect mobile, alternating lane closures in both directions Thursday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Route 231 (South Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Pothole patching from Route 686 (Fairground Road) to Route 662 (Shiffletts Corner Lane). Expect mobile, alternating lane closures in both directions Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Rappahannock County 

(NEW) Route 522 (Zachary Taylor Highway) – Shoulder maintenance between Route 641 (Aileen Road) and the Warren County line. Expect lane closures controlled by flagging Thursday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
