Culpeper District Traffic Alerts: Feb. 1-5

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is performing roadway widening along Route 250, installing drainage structures along the Barracks Road ramps and constructing noise walls. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., right lane closed on the Route 250 Bypass westbound between Hydraulic Road and Barracks Road.

Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Roadway widening and construction of retaining walls, abutments and storm drains continue in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Monday through Friday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on northbound Route 29 from Fashion Square Drive to Albemarle Square. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Berkmar Drive as the detour route.

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on southbound Route 29 from Albemarle Square to Fashion Square Drive. Motorists wishing to turn left from Route 29 to Rio Road should use Branchlands Boulevard and Hillsdale Drive as the detour route.

–        Both directions of Rio Road will be closed in the vicinity of the intersection with a single lane open for local business traffic. Motorists wishing to reach Route 29 should follow posted detour signs.

–        Right lane closed at the intersection of Rio Road and Berkmar Drive.

Route 29 widening – Median grading, utility relocation and storm-drain installation continues from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. The following work is scheduled Sunday through Friday nights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Single alternating lane closures will be in place in both directions on Route 29 between Towncenter Drive and Rio Mills Road.

–        Intermittent lane closures and periodic traffic stops on Route 29 will occur for temporary signal installation between Ashwood Boulevard and North Hollymead Drive. Motorists should use caution approaching the intersections.

 

 

Albemarle County

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Repairing potholes in both directions between mile marker 99 on Afton Mountain and mile marker 143 (Route 208 exit) in Louisa County. Between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane through the mobile work zone.Motorists should be alert for slow-moving vehicles in the work zone. Expect minor delays.

Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Feb. 27.

Interstate 64 – Repairs to the eastbound bridge over Biscuit Run. Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the right shoulder will be closed on I-64 between mile markers 120 and 121. Motorists should remain alert for workers near the travel lanes, and for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Bridge replacement. Minor finishing work will require intermittent single lane closures with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should anticipate brief delays during daytime work hours.

 

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.

Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Intermittent lane closures will occur Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 and to 50 mph on Route 29 through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

Route 784 (Western Outer Loop) – Construction of new roadway. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway at the Route 522 (Sperryville Pike) and Route 729 (Eggbornsville Road) intersections. Anticipated completion November 2017.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 601, 603, 611, 621, 623, 625, 633, 640, 678, 802 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 601, 617, 624, 626, 657, 693 – Maintenance of gravel roads.

 

 

Fauquier County

Route 688 (Leeds Manor Road) – Replacing bridge over Thumb Run. Intermittent lane closures will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.Monday through Friday. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion July 2016.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 607 – Shoulder repairs and ditching.
  • Routes 602, 651, 652, 669, 670, 681, 684, 688, 691, 732, 802 – Pavement patching.
  • Routes 628, 673, 680, 681, 682, 688, 694, 737, 736, 742, 761, 800 – Maintenance of gravel roads.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

 

 

Louisa County

(NEW) Interstate 64 – Repairing potholes in both directions between mile marker 99 on Afton Mountain and mile marker 143 (Route 208 exit) in Louisa County. (UPDATE) Route 663 (Owens Creek Road) – Replacing bridge over Owens Creek. Road closed daily from Route 611 (Dongola Road) to 0.8 mile south of Route 610 (Holly Grove Drive). During the closure, northbound traffic will be detoured on Route 611 south to Route 250 (Broad Street Road) to Route 522 (Cross Country Road), which carries motorists back to Route 663. Southbound traffic will reverse the detour. Anticipated completion Feb. 12.

 

 

Madison County

(UPDATE) Route 230 (Orange Road) – Tree trimming in both directions from Route 29 (Seminole Trail) to Route 15 (James Madison Highway). Single lane closures with flagging will occur Monday through Friday during daytime hours. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

 

 

Orange County

(UPDATE) Route 15 (James Madison Highway) – Tree trimming between Route 639 (Madison Run Road/Chicken Mountain Road) and the town of Gordonsville. Single lane closures with flagging will occur Monday through Thursday between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Expect delays.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 15 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Route 604 – Pavement patching.
  • Route 663 – Drainage pipe replacement.

 

 

Rappahannock County

Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Tree trimming from the Page County line to Sperryville. The eastbound right lane will be closedMonday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

Route 637 (Jericho Road) – Replacement of bridge over Big Indian Run. Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures with flagging, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Anticipated completion May 2.

  • Routes 618, 621 – Pavement patching.
