Culpeper District Traffic Alerts: Dec. 28-Jan. 1

road-work-headerThe following highway work is scheduled, weather permitting, in the Culpeper District during the upcoming week. Traffic movements may be restricted and speed limits reduced in work zones. (NEW) or (UPDATE) indicate revisions since last week’s report.

VDOT will suspend most highway work zones during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays to limit congestion and provide as many travel lanes as possible. Lane closures will be lifted on interstates and other major roads during the following dates and times:

  • Noon, Thursday, Dec. 24, to noon, Monday, Dec. 28, and
  • Noon, Thursday, Dec. 31, to noon, Monday, Jan. 4, 2016.

(UPDATE) Route 29/250 Bypass interchange – Contractor is installing storm drain structures; installing a new traffic signal at Angus Road; building sidewalks and installing guardrail in the Route 29 median; and widening the ramp. Motorists should be alert for equipment entering and exiting the highway.

–        The ramp from Barracks Road to the Route 250 Bypass east will be narrowed and the acceleration lane from the ramp will be shortened, requiring motorists to stop before merging into the travel lanes.

(UPDATE) Rio Road grade-separated intersection – Utility relocation work continues in the vicinity of the Rio Road intersection. The following work on Route 29 is scheduled Monday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.:

–        Alternating triple lane closures will be in place on northbound and southbound Route 29 between Fashion Square Drive to Albemarle Square.

–        Both directions of Rio Road will be closed in the vicinity of the Route 29 intersection. All left turn movements at the intersection will be restricted; right turns will be permitted. Motorists should use the posted detour routes.

(UPDATE) Route 29 widening – Median clearing from Polo Grounds Road to Towncenter Drive. Monday through Wednesday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., single alternating lane closures will occur on northbound and southbound Route 29 from just north of North Hollymead Drive to just south of Ashwood Boulevard.

 

 

Albemarle County

(UPDATE) Interstate 64 – Installation of infrastructure and devices for active traffic management system on Afton Mountain. Left shoulder closed in both directions between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday from mile marker 107 (Crozet exit) to mile marker 94 in Augusta County. Motorists should keep right and use caution approaching the work zone. Anticipated completion Feb. 27.

Route 677 (Broomley Road) – Bridge replacement. Minor finishing work will require intermittent single lane closures with traffic controlled by flaggers. Motorists should anticipate brief delays during daytime work hours.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 29, 250, 686 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 250, 600, 616, 620, 680, 691, 696, 736 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 612, 774 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 630, 631, 710, 746 – Pipe replacement.

 

 

Culpeper County

Route 3 (Germanna Highway) – Roadway widening to four lanes. Clearing, excavation and utility relocation will occur along the route from Stevensburg to Lignum. Motorists should be alert for workers near the travel lanes and for trucks entering and exiting the highway. Speed limit reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.

(UPDATE) Route 29 (James Madison Highway) – Construction of new interchange at Route 666 (Braggs Corner Road). Speed limit reduced to 35 mph on Route 666 and to 50 mph on Route 29 through the work zone. Anticipated completion August 2017.

  • Routes 3, 15, 229, 522 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 603, 608, 611, 613, 637, 639, 640, 643, 645, 663, 666, 678 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Fauquier County

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 604 – Pipe replacement.
  • Routes 604, 626, 732, 777, 787, 1550 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Routes 616, 673, 674, 690, 777 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 623, 626, 628, 629, 692, 694, 698, 703, 709, 732, 734, 735, 761, 799 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Route 678 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Fluvanna County

Route 6 (East River Road) – Replacement of the Rivanna River bridge. Road reduced to one lane with two-way traffic controlled by temporary traffic signals. Motorists should be alert for traffic controls as they approach the area. Anticipated completion summer 2016.

  • Routes 6, 600, 605, 612, 614, 618, 628, 659, 685 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.

 

 

Greene County

(UPDATE) Route 642 (Simms Road) – Paving of gravel road. Mobile lane closures with flagging will occur during daytime work hours. Obey traffic controls.

 

Routine Maintenance Activities

  • Route 614 – Machining of gravel roads.
  • Routes 632, 633, 743 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Louisa County

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Routes 33, 655, 1305 – Shoulder repair and ditching.

 

 

Madison County

Routine Maintenance Activities

Motorists should expect brief delays, obey traffic controls and be alert for construction equipment entering and exiting the highway.

  • Route 613 – Drainage pipe installation.
  • Route 620 – Shoulder repair and ditching.
  • Route 652 – Trimming

 

 

Orange County

(UPDATE) Route 231 (Blue Ridge Turnpike) – Tree trimming in both directions from Route 33 in Orange County to Route 230 in Madison County. Single lane closures with flagging will occur on Monday from noon to 5 p.m., on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

  • Routes 3, 20, 522, 643 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Route 604 – Pavement patching.

 

 

Rappahannock County

(UPDATE) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Tree trimming in both directions from the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department to Thornton Gap. Single lane closures with flagging will occur on Monday from noon to 5 p.m., on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon. Expect delays of up to five minutes.

  • Route 211 – Trimming and roadside maintenance.
  • Routes 600, 614, 615, 616, 622, 626, 637, 638, 664, 681 – Pavement patching
  • Routes 616, 626, 627, 650 – Machining of gravel roads.
