riley-robert-garlandThe Waynesboro Police Department arrested an Augusta County man Monday afternoon on felony charges stemming from a weekend stabbing at a city apartment complex.

Officers found Robert Garland Riley, 46 year old of Craigsville, Mondayafternoon in the 100 block of South Delphine Avenue.  They arrested him without incident.  Riley was wanted for malicious wounding after he attacked another man in a jealous rage Saturday night.

On November 19, 2016 at approximately 11:20 PM, officers responded to Parkway Court Apartments, 1600 block of New Hope Road, for a report of a man suffering a stab wound.  Officers found the 53 year old victim, a Staunton man, with a deep laceration to his hand.  The victim told officers that he and a 27 year old female acquaintance, who lives at the apartment complex, were attempting to enter her apartment when Riley approached them and attacked the victim.  The assault lasted about a minute during which the victim said Riley stabbed him with a six inch bladed knife.  The female witness threatened to call for police if Riley didn’t cease.  Riley threatened her as well but did allow the victim and witness to enter her apartment.  Riley then fled the area.

The witness told officers that Riley is infatuated with her and attacked the victim out of jealousy.  The victim was treated and released from Augusta Health.

In addition to the malicious wounding charge, officers arrested Riley for probation violations.  He is being held at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.
