CNN sets viewer record with Republican presidential debate
The 6 p.m. undercard debate drew 6.3 million viewers.
The two were outperformed on the aggregate by the Fox GOP debates that aired in August. The main-event Fox debate drew 24 million viewers, and the not-ready-for-prime-time Fox debate drew 6.1 million viewers.
The previous most-watched CNN program was a 1993 edition of “Larry King Live” featuring then-Vice President Al Gore and Ross Perot debating NAFTA that drew 16.8 million viewers.
