City announces Jumpstart Waynesboro: Ignite Your Business contest

waynesboro2editsIn an effort to attract new businesses to Waynesboro, the Economic Development office has partnered with the Staunton Creative Community Fund and Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc. to host Jumpstart Waynesboro: Ignite® Your Business Contest.

The event will take place in Downtown Waynesboro at the WTA’s Gateway (329 W. Main St.) on Oct. 22 and Nov. 12 from 6-8 p.m. Individuals with business ideas are encouraged to participate on one of the two nights. Participants will be encouraged to follow the Ignite® format which includes presenting 20 slides in 5 minutes to detail their business concept.

On Jan. 6 winners will be selected by a panel of judges. The first place prize is $7,000 and second place prize is $4,000 to be utilized by the winners to help launch their business concept in Waynesboro. Each night there will also be a ‘People’s Choice’ award.

The Jumpstart Waynesboro program was made possible by a Virginia Enterprise Initiative grant through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. The Waynesboro Economic Development Office will work in partnership with Staunton Creative Community Fund and Waynesboro Downtown Development Inc. to implement the program.
