The USA Cycling Team has chosen Charlottesville and Albemarle County for their pre UCI World Cycling Championships training camp.
On this occasion, the CACVB is hosting two public events, allowing the community to interact with these elite athletes and get a glimpse into their world. The Charlottesville Albemarle Convention & Visitors Bureau invites locals and visitors alike to take part in two exciting free events.
On Monday, September 14, fans will “Ride the Divide with Team USA” in a unique event held at the Paramount Theater starting at 5:00 p.m. Andrea Dvorak, local pro-cyclist and Andy Guptill, former pro-cyclist and Director of Endurance for the Miller School of Albemarle Team, will discuss endurance training, as well as the importance of physical and mental preparedness prior to a competition. Immediately after this fascinating presentation, guests will be treated to the screening of “Ride the Divide,” a captivating movie about the most daunting endurance cycle race in the world. In attendance will be a special guest who lives in our area and has ‘Ridden the Divide.’
The presentation of this movie is a courtesy of the Virginia Film Festival. The Graduate Charlottesville is the premier sponsor of ‘Ride the Divide with Team USA. Other community partners include The Paramount Theater, Champion Brewery, and Travinia Italian Kitchen restaurant.
Then on September 17, Cycle Fest will be held at the nTelos Wireless Pavilion from 3:00p.m.to 6:30 p.m. The event will kick-off with a press conference, which will provide local and national media the only opportunity to meet with the USA Cycling Team prior to the UCI World Cycling Championships in Richmond. Cycle Fest will also feature panel discussions; a cycling-themed expo including local bike shops, cycling clubs, and more; free bike inspections, as well as bike decorating and other activities for kids. Members of Team USA will be present to interact with the public throughout this event and the first 100 guests will receive a coupon for free frozen yogurt at Baggby’s.
