Charles Towns cools off Harrisonburg Turks, 5-0

hbg turksShortstop Stephen Kerr’s three hits powered the Charles Town Cannons past the Harrisonburg Turks 5-0 on Tuesday night.

Kerr started the scoring in the top of the first inning with an RBI double that scored leadoff man Justin “Hooty” Harris from second to give the Cannons an early 1-0 lead.  That lead would last the whole game.  Kerr struck again in the fifth inning with a 2-RBI single that followed Chris Townsend and Harris singles and an Andrew Mulato walk, extending the lead to 4-0.

Matt Gandy brought in a run in the first inning for the Cannons on a groundout to second.  Charles Town added an extra insurance run in the sixth on a Townsend RBI single.

Jack Charleston earned the win for Charles Town, throwing five shutout innings on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.  He has yet to allow an earned run this season.  James Ziemba took the loss for Harrisonburg and falls to 0-3 on the season.

This loss snaps a five game winning streak for the Turks, who fall to 12-7 on the season.  The Cannons improve to 10-9.

The Turks finish a three game home stand on Wednesday night by hosting the New Market Rebels at 7:30 p.m.
