The United Way of Greater Augusta formally announced today the launch of the Greater Augusta Volunteer Center. The Center will serve as a hub for coordinating and connecting volunteer’s with opportunities that support nonprofits serving Greater Augusta.

Anyone seeking to serve as a volunteer can simply register at www.unitedwayga.org by clicking on the volunteer tab. That tab will take them through simple steps to register as a volunteer and explore the available events and opportunities posted by area nonprofits. These opportunities can range from working with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Central Blue Ridge to participating in one of several National Days of Service, such as Family Volunteer day held the last Saturday before Thanksgiving.

“We have seen a surge in calls from our corporate business partners for volunteer opportunities ever since United Way combined our annual Campaign Kick-Off with Day of Action,” said Cynthia Pritchard, the executive director of the UWGA. “It was a unanimous decision from the Board of Directors to invest our resources in the development of the Greater Augusta Volunteer Center.”

The Center has been registering community partners on the new website for the past month. When the site goes live, any nonprofits with a 501 c 3 designation will be able to register and start placing events on the calendar. As volunteers register with the Greater Augusta Volunteer Center a list of appropriate volunteer opportunities is generated as well as notification sent to the appropriate agency regarding interest in the opportunity.

The process is simple, with systematic instructions for both the volunteer and the organization.

You can access the Center online at www.uwgavolunteercenter.org.
