Liberty redshirt freshman guard Devon Brown has been recognized as the Big South Women’s Basketball Choice Hotels Player of the Week, after helping the Lady Flames go 3-0 and win the Navy Classic title last week.

Brown, a 2008 Waynesboro High School grad, who averaged 21.0 ppg and 10.7 rpg for the week, is the first Liberty freshman to earn a Big South Women’s Basketball Player of the Week award since Megan Frazee, who captured the honor on Dec. 5, 2005 and Jan. 16, 2006.

Brown opened her week with a 26-point, nine-rebound outing versus UNC Greensboro on Nov. 17. She then recorded her first career double-double (18 points, 12 rebounds) versus Tulane Friday, in the opening contest of the Navy Classic.

Arguably her most impressive performance of the week came the following evening, during the Navy Classic title game against host Navy. The Lady Flames fell behind 20-4 to start the game, before Brown helped Liberty rally for a 55-43 win. Brown, named the Championship Game All-Star, finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. During the second half, she outscored the Midshipmen singlehandedly, 14-11.

Brown and the 4-0 Lady Flames will travel to Lafayette Saturday, for their second straight road game against a Patriot League opponent. Tipoff at the Kirby Sports Center is slated for 1 p.m.
