The second annual Interfaith International Day of Prayer for Peace will be markde this Friday, Sept. 21, beginning at 6:45 p.m. at the Gypsy Hill Park Bandstand in Staunton.

The event will begin with soothing music to set the mood from Lou Boden and Spiritheart Collective, followed by peace quote readings from area youth, and reflections from Pastor Scott Duffey, Staunton Church of the Brethren, and Nicholas Patler, Bethany Theological Seminary. Then the Bella Voce Choir of Mary Baldwin College, directed by Madeline Abel-Kerns, will perform powerful peace hymns from voices past that honor and celebrate the quest of the human spirit for peace, understanding and harmony.

With our spirits uplifted and inspired, we will be led by six guides representing different spiritual traditions and practices into a one minute silent prayer-meditation for ceasefire in areas of the country and world suffering from ongoing conflicts and problems. Katherine Low, Chaplain of Mary Baldwin College, will complete our reflections with a responsive prayer, “Praying for Ceasefire.”

Our local International Day of Prayer for Peace event will wind down with peace activity tables, and music and singing led by Bittersweet East, including “Siyahamba,” “One World, One People, One Family,” Let There Be Peace on Earth,” and “This Little Heart of Mine.” And Shelby Owen, Associate Pastor at Trinity Episcopal Church, will share a closing prayer for peace.

We would love to see you there! Everyone is welcome—liberal-conservative, religious-non-religious, traditional-alternative.

Bring a friend, bring an enemy, leave in peace.
