Brian Bocock, Daniel Bowman in MLB spring training

baseball-newLocal baseball standouts Brian Bocock and Daniel Bowman will be in major league camps in spring training trying to land spots in The Show.

Bocock, a graduate of turner ashby High School in Bridgewater, signed with the Kansas City Royals after spending the 2013 season in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. Bocock was the Opening Day shortstop for the San Francisco Giants in 2008 and played for the philadelphia phillies at the major league level in 2010.

Bowman, also an alum of Turner Ashby, signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks after spending 2013 in Lake Erie in the Frontier League, where he was an all-star who hit .309 with 11 home runs, 25 doubles, eight triples and led the Crushers to the Frontier League Championship Series.

Bowman was a third team All-American, second team All-Atlantic Region and the 2012 Big South Baseball Player of the Year at Coastal Carolina and is the CCU career leader in games played (246), games started (244), at bats (963), hits (309), RBI (206) and total bases (526). He the first player in Big South history with 200 runs scored, 200 RBI and 300 hits.
