Brett Leake began his career as a standup comic in 1983. He was well on his successful way to national recognition when he was diagnosed with an incurable illness. That did not stop him from moving forward. As he says, in 1997 he began working as a sit-down standup comic. The following year he opened a new door as a motivational speaker by adding personal stories and what have been called ‘philosophic lecturettes’ to his standup act. The result is a performance that uses humor as a problem-solving device and as a means to get more out of life.
His return to WTA’s Gateway on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 8 p.m. will move and delight his audience. His show A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Tonight Show is full of humor and inspiration as he combines his unique sense of humor with the story of his struggle with a debilitating disease. Humor is what allows him and us to rise above the daily struggles and see the comic irony in life. Brett Leake in performance is a testament to that.
Leake continues to perform across the nation. He has performed at the Smithsonian, the Kennedy Center, and Wolftrap. His corporate clients include IBM, Toyota, and Ford. Now WTA’s Gateway can claim him.
